Patently Silly From the home page: "Necessity is the mother of invention. The father is unknown."
  • Don't forget Patently Absurd.
  • One of my favorite patents, the wheel.
  • Apparently the patent office has a low threshold for the common sense factor. The Ultimate Comb Over? The Crunch Protector? The inventions on these sites are not only hilarious, but it rather alarms me that real humans actually thought these up.
  • Here's one that I didn't see on that web page: Smuckers wants to extend the patent for PB&J (yes, peanut butter and jelly) in their Uncrustables product. This is the million dollar question- Is the method for making PB&J: (a) Novel (b) Useful (c) Not of an obvious nature (d) All of the above (e) None of the above I swear this is a true story, but you can read the 04/07/05 article on WSJ online- you need a subscription though :(
  • I remember hearing about that. As I recall they claim the product is not a sandwich because of the unique layering and sealing of the thing. I've been meaning to try one.
  • This reminds me of the time we were helping a friend of mine move into her new place. We got a group of 5 big guys to move all of her crapola. Things were moving alone until I saw one of the guys was sitting on the steps laughing uncontrollably. Walked up and asked him whats up. He just pointed at the box sitting in front of him and said "listen". The box was labeled "bedroom" and was vibrating like a hive of bees was inside. I took the box upstairs and set in on the kitchen counter and called out to her "I think this one is leaking or something." and ran downstairs. For the rest of the move she refused to make eye contact with any of us.
  • oops
  • Argh, thanks for the sharing your story, it is hilarious, but how does it relate to the post? I cannot see the connection. However, do you mind if I post that on my blog? Of course, I will give you credit, but I want others to share in the joy. *ha ha ha ha ha ha*
  • posted comment under wrong post. (again)
  • No, actually you didn't. Vibrators had to be invented by somebody, right?
  • Argh, hmm... which post did you intend?
