Cooking and engineering CAN live in harmony. Well, maybe not. I dont want to see an angry engineer with a chef's blade. Anyhow, it's customary if you're an engineer (especially if you're a student) to subsist on twinkies and ramen, but this guy begs to differ.
  • I like the format of the recipes on this site, but, c'mon, doesn't Alton Brown OWN this particular niche?
  • I think that's a great site, I am going to start writing my recipes down like that. So I can actually read them. My boyfriend is a mechanical engineer and a great cook... and yeah, he swears by Alton Brown. Heh. Though I imagine he'll like this too.
  • I too like the format of the recipes (and I'm not an engineer), but am a little surprised to see that it won best food weblog for 2005.
  • What an odd concept. I am an engineer, or at least I got an chemical engineering degree, and I have no trouble following the traditional recipe format. In fact I enjoy reading cookbooks for fun. Except for Alton Brown's...I adore his show but can't stand the format of his recipes either.
  • Format seems best suited to rather simple recipes -- but for a recipe with lots of ingredients and/or lots of instructions I surmise it could be more annoying than helpful.
  • The point he makes about his recipe format is that multiple ingredients on the the left get crunched into the groups as you move the right. This keeps complexity down.
  • All these comments about Alton Brown and not one link!
  • I was reminded of this site tonight as I tried to recall the proper proportion of water to flour for a pizza base. The site is down at the moment, I hope it's not gone completely.
  • Seems to be a temporary problem.
