Video Conversion
I need to convert WMV files to AVI files, without increasing the file size dramatically, please help!
Hi. For a project I am working on, I need to convert from WMV files to AVI files, without increasing file size. These video files are short (less than 20 minutes long). I have come across Stoik, which increases file size by a factor of about 4, which isn't terrible, but still a large inflation. Also, freeware please! $$$ to buy the software is not in the cards for this. Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate all Monkey help, as well as snide comments about my selfish hogging of the front page!

well if you can get to avi with that stoik program, you could then use something like virtual dub to compress that
-
way to hog the front page fucker.

oh, and a google search for what it's worth.

Video Lan Client VLC is a great transcoder. It lets you set bitrates, change the container type and select from the many video codecs available.

Videohelp.com has tons of how-to's to convert virtually any format to any other format. Click on the "Convert" how-to on the left hand side.

Does that Windows Movie Maker export as AVI? 'Cause that's pretty easy to use, and it's free. I've used it to go from AVI to WMV for use in PowerPoint presentations. It might well go the other way if you ask it nicely.
