Curious George: Finding a taxi.
I'm doing a quick business trip in Ohio and would like to avoid renting a car. If I just call up a place like "Yellow Cab" will I be getting good service and price? Or is it better to look around in the phone book?

I'm in Columbus, so this may or may not be relevant to you. For the times I have used taxis, Yellow Cab is been great. As far as I know, rates are pretty much the same for the registered cab companies, though this isn't mandated for most cities. Also, the drivers here have to pass an English proficiency exam and have a good knowledge of the area, geographically. Probably more than you need to know, but here is a quick look at the taxi business in Ohio.

Completely unrelated, and not available in Ohio

Also completely unrelated, but Ohio-specific, and of use to many on business trips.

It depends on where you are in Ohio. Here in Bowling Green, we have no public transport. We do have two (count 'em!) taxis that the city subsidises. They take you anywhere you want to go in town for $3 each way.
