Killer flu strain released accidently by some dumbass to labs in 18 countries.
  • Is it just me? Or do you have the feeling the Four Horses of the Apocalypse are tied up in front of a bar just around the corner? "C'mon! Just one more shot!" "Fuck it Bob...we have a hell of a lot of annihilatin' to do...let's saddle up and start mowin' us down some dogies".
  • but the movies tell us it's not the fault of a dozen monkeys and movies don't lie, right? Right?!?? sic some warmongering slime mold beetles on them
  • I'm disappointed that the word 'dumbass' did not appear in the CNN headline...
  • mj, if you enjoyed that image, then you will definitely enjoy Good Omens, a lighthearted comedy about the end of the world. The ride of the horsemen is quite a thing to read.
  • Me too. You know 'dumbass' figures prominently in the self re-titled version everybody has in their head after they read about it.
  • I wonder if the "Walking Dude" is somewhere drumming his fingertips, saying to himself ...."..excellent"..ala Mr Burns. /just finished reading "The Stand" last week
  • I just got my free sample in the mail today.
  • The new flu shots are here! The new flu shots are here! /paraphrasing Steve Martin
  • Best. FPP. Title. EVAR.
  • eek.
  • The Four dumbasses of the Apocalypse. These samples went out in September, boy are they on top of it.
  • I agree... great FPP title! What's with this, though, in the story? ...it was the deadly Asian flu strain. The WHO and the [CDC] said there is little risk to the public from the virus... I'm starting to wonder whether it's CNN or CDC that's the real dumbass.
  • I find it hard to believe this was an accident. There are too many safeguards, checks and re-checks before distribution of these things for this to be an accident. I ain't buyin' it. tin foil hat firmly in place
  • It was an accident that the fact it was released, was released to the press.
  • Not to mention that this variant of the flu was sent to labs in such politically culturally stable places as Saudi Arabia and Lebanon.
  • *politically and culturally
  • Yep, somone in the goverment decided it was time to cull the herd.
  • "It's regrettable, and a lot of communication needs to be improved..." Ya think? "Hey...you lab dudes...if you come across a deadly flu strain, don't, like, send it to anybody, ok?" "Yeah...whatever, uptight CDC dudes."
  • The College of American Pathologists obtained the samples from Meridian Bioscience and was told Meridian obtained it from "another vendor" in 2000. I wonder who this other vendor could be? It just gets interestinger and interestinger. ;)
  • mmmmm....deadly diseases make me all tingling and oozy. Bring 'em on!
  • I wonder who this other vendor could be? Crazy Larry what lives in the swamp. He's tetchy.
  • Moneyjane, yer a hoot. That's why I still think you should go with Hooty McBoob.
  • Hmmm . . .only those over 36 have any immunity. If today's young'uns get out of hand . . .
  • Schooooool's out forrrrrever!
  • A different dumbass accidentally sold some mutant corn to farmers.
  • The world is full of dumbasses. Someday, some dumbass is going to off us all.
  • I wonder who this other vendor could be? *Starts to whistle. Walks away*
  • Uhh? I don't get it. Sending this stuff to labs was the SAFEST thing they could do with it. Clinical labs treat EVERYTHING as if it was infectious. It's called univeral precautions and labs live with it every day. Pathogens way worse than this come through a busy lab every day. And unfortunately, the only way a lab learns to identify the bad shit in the real world is to look at survey specimens that the CAP or other QA organizations send out. I'm really puzzled why CNN decided to jump on this flu strain and not the antibiotic-resistant TB, malaria, anthrax, botulinium, and other junk that routinely are in survey samples.

  • Dumbass alert: Samples of a potentially lethal flu strain sent to Lebanon and Mexico did not reach the respective laboratories, the World Health Organization says." Great, deadly flu virus sent to Mexico and Lebanon *of all places* goes missing! I feel more safe now... "prestigious international carriers" heh!
  • oops
