Happyface spiders. Theridion grallator, enough to freak your dreams forever.

Also.

  • are those ultrasounds of britney's baby?
  • Holy crack pipes! Them is nasty. The happy faces, not spiders. I am a friend to spiders.
  • They're smiling at our dooooooom.
  • A.S. Byatt wrote about insects being a parent to human notions of fairies, in "Morpho Eugenia." (And maybe a lot else; I haven't read all of her.)
  • I've never seen one of these in 5+ years of living in Hawai'i. Matter of fact, I've only seen one spider here ever, and that was about a year ago. I actually was pretty sure that Hawai'i had no spiders, like they have no snakes. I asked around until somebody told me about the happy face spider. As far as the happy face goes, what do you expect from a spider in paradise? Of course it's going to have a happy face on it. If they ever do discover a native snake here, I'd expect it to be so covered with hearts and rainbows that it look like it just ate the Care Bear Bunch.
  • They look like little Rorschach tests.
  • And what do you see? Mmm? Mmm?
  • Gaaaaaaaaahhh! And I'm not even afraid of spiders, but that's too creepy for words.
  • Looks a little like this guy.
  • Please tell me that they're deadly. That would be awesome.
  • I am so afraid of spiders that even reading these comments wigs me out a bit. I will never click on any of these links, so tell me, does it have a smiley face, or a pattern that looks like a happy face on its disgusting body? ugh.
  • Medusa, yes. There are 6 different spiders pictured, and each of them have a yellow abdomen, with black markings that resemble smiley faces, remarkably like the "Have a Nice Day!" smiley faces from the 1970's. A couple of them actually have a red "mouth." Creeps me right out.
  • I thought they looked like creepy clown faces. ... *runs screaming from room*
  • "And what do you see? Mmm? Mmm?" Me? Um..kittens. And anything else which would undoubtedly reveal my perfect mental health. *hides facial ticks*
  • I think they're rather sweet, really - especially that one from East Maui that looks exactly like a rubber duck (IMO).
  • They're kinda like creepy gummy spiders. Some of them seem kinda sad though.
  • If I was a Happyface spider, I'd be walking around saying, "Ha! I make ass-smile at you! How ya like me now? Mwahahahahaha!" I think maybe then I'd be a Bastardface spider, but I don't care.
  • I think a band called Happyface Spider would be a good thing.
  • The Smilingest Arachno-Asses in American Samoa
  • Handsome critters, these -- and I'm impressed by the silly expression of the one from East Maui.
