Curious, George: Cookies Part II. A long time ago I wondered why my MoFi cookie disappeared so easily. Now I can't figure out why Firefox refuses to auto-log-in when my cookie does disappear.

It won't remember the name/password and fill in the form. I tried dumping all my cookies... no results. Checked my passwords... Monkeyfilter is not on the "never save" list. What gives? Anyone else seeing this? Just a "me" thing, or a Firefox thing? (Happens at home too, so I'm guessing it's not just my computer.) Password for MeFi shows up and auto-logs in just fine...

  • you could bake your own? seriously, I can't help. I've been having cookie problems as well, but mostly in Safari.
  • I don't remember if I posted this before, but one of the common problems I've run into on other sites with cookie issues is whether or not "www" is in the URL after the "http://". I've had all kinds of hell on bulletin boards with that, because sites won't always keep and use the cookie from http://www.example.com when you go to http://example.com and vice versa. I haven't had my new Powerbook long enough find out whether I'm going to have cookie problems in Safari, but it seems to be doing OK so far.
  • Some possibilities: 1. You might have your 'sanitize settings' set to clear cookies on shutdown. AFAIK, this only applies to recent nightlies in the 1.0 'trunk' line. (NOT the 1.0.x 'aviary' builds.) 2. Check your hostperm file to see that monkeyfilter.com's entry is something like:
    host cookie 1 monkeyfilter.com
You can enable this by going into the 'cookie permissions' dialog (probably Edit > Preferences > Cookies > Exceptions), entering monkeyfilter.com in the text box and clicking 'allow'. If you want to experiment, move the old hostperm file somewhere else and see if you still have this problem with a fresh one.
  • Check my hotsperm file? Oh my!
  • the Safari cookie issue is with the last_visit cookie--it never expires, so I have to clear it manually. Auto login works fine.
  • oh, man, i had the BEST recipe for safari cookies. they're peanut butter with butterscotch chips and golden raisins. now i'm hungry
  • Well, MoFi is on my "allow" list... but the option to add it to my password list doesn't appear when I'm logging in. I think this is the biggest issue. Perhaps something has changed in the way the login page is coded such that it no longer triggers the auto-complete dialog?
  • Abiezer, you were definitely NOT the only one thinking that...
  • Have you checked in Edit > Preferences > Privacy > Saved Passwords > View Saved Passwords > Passwords Never Saved?
