Curious George: RSS on Your Own Site. Is it possible? How do you do it?

There've been a few threads on Mofi about RSS, but I have yet another question. My classmate would like to have an RSS feed on his own website, rather than downloading an aggregator program on his own PC, or using Bloglines or LiveJournal etc. Is that possible? How l33t a programmer/HTMLer do you have to be do accomplish that? He's definitely quite good with HTML and XML, having created websites of his own, but I don't think he's quite at Webmaster level (if there's such a thing). Any advice?

  • No help here, but I have to say I've been wondering the exact same thing for over a year now. Good question.
  • Try RSS Digest. I just discovered it yesterday, and it works fantastic - I'm using it to post my most recent tracks in audioscrobbler on my blog.
  • Are you asking how to display a feed, or to publish one? If it's display, then yes, RSS Digest is a good solution. If it's publish, it depends how he's building the site in the first place. (email me for detailed advice on the latter if its needed - for my sins, I've written two books on the subject.)
  • Cool. Thanks hamfisted. Nanas to you, and one to Mfpb as well, for coming in (^_^)
  • Wow. DangerIMMN, can I refer my classmate to you? I don't think he wants to publish RSS, that is, have other people see on their feeds what he's got on his site; but rather, just display headlines he's interested in. However, this is knowledge based on a very distracted conversation (we were talking to some other classmates on other subjects as well), so I'll ask him again. Thank ye kindly!
  • Course you can, my little chickadee. Come one, come all to the DangerIsMyMiddleName RSS masterclass and ho-down...
  • my little chickadee o_O Ok, what has mothninja been telling you about me? /tinfoil hat
  • if you don't want that name, can i have it?
  • He was just channelling W.C. Fields, or, maybe Mae West. (NYT link, which may require registration, but it's relatively painless.)
  • Ah. Thanks, path (^_^) *undoffs tinfoil hat* Mfpb, my dear, you're free to take it.
  • For those of you who haven't checked out DangerIsMyMiddleName's site, it's the cat's ass. I just recently discovered it via the_bone's blog, and fell in love. /kissassderail
