I say we mutiny! Wouldn't it be interesting if once MeFi started "inviting" new members from Monkeyfilter... we all just said, "Oh, no thanks, we're having fun over here by ourselves." And then we close Monkeyfilter membership to anyone from MeFi. Heh.
  • Commence 'Operation Feces-Fling'!
  • I like it here and I am incredibly grateful to Tracicle & crew for getting this site up. (Thanks guys!!) I also like reading MeFites on MoFi as well as having the opportunity to interact with personalities I've been reading for well over a year. However, I'm most looking forward to seeing how our own community evolves and identity emerges. This is going to be fun!
  • Those horizontal stripes add 20 pounds and I'm already big-boned--can we rethink this?
  • Mutiny!? Queeg!
  • I prefer the colour scheme here. But it's too slow. I must admit though it is funny how new membership opened up on metafilter, just after this was started.
  • and hey i got userid 100 - that can't be bad!
  • Mefi was a gilded mansion, throwing balls we weren't invited to, full of corpses in tuxedoes who never talked, never moved with a few vibrant live folks trying to ignore them. Now, we've built a speakeasy next door. They've got ballroom dancing, very courtly, very refined, but full of rotting husks. We've got honky-tonk jazz, raw and full of spirit. All you need to get in is a knock, and we've got bathtub gin. Eventually all the fun ones will come to the party.
  • Jeebers, the sweet smell of unresolved
  • mumble mumble mumble... Oh, hi! We're you talking about something? No, I'm not taking notes or anything, this is my next blog entry about Day-After-Thanksgiving shopping: See? I was at Fry's Electronics and there was a big crowd around a big-screen TV that was showing Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, how weird is that? Just for the record, the "ballroom dancing" at MeFi usually devolves into a mosh pit, and the dress code has gotten so lax that quonsar usually wears a tuxedo jacket and no pants. We play almost all kinds of music, but Miguel always starts a fight when Joe Jackson comes on, and the smell of rotting husks is coming from the popcorn machine. My advice: if the bathtub has a rubber duck in it, pass on the gin.
  • The above answers the eternal question: "So where do you go to get good drugs here" I kid because, I kid.
  • Insert "?" where appropriate above. (And apparently I'm the answer if wendell isn't)
  • I think you have to make a distinction between "Mefi" inviting new mwmbers and Mathowie inviting new members. Remember, a sizable sample of MeFi users have been pushing for new open memberships. Personally, I have been a obsessive frequenter / not so obsessive poster/commentator in the blue for a really long time, yet MoFo (the purple?) has quickly risen to the top of the pile for me. It just feels so - refreshing.
  • Quartermass-- your MoFi screen is purple? Mine is a crisp bedsheet white; snowy, virginal, fresh. Like MoFi itself.
  • Mine's sort of like a crisp bedsheet that's been rolled on by a wet dog, but that's apparently the way I like it.
  • I second everything that Cheeky Monkey said. I like it here, and I am interested to see how this unfolds. I don't see that it necessarily has to be a rivalry. It's fun to have some interaction between the two- I like seeing the MeFites who've joined up here. Bathtub gin or a nice port...when's the first party? Tracicle, when are you coming to California so we can raise a glass to you?
  • I like the lavender (but i hope all of you can get into mefi too)
  • this page is purple! don't say it's not, you will drive me carazy! is it supposed to be?
  • I say the more parties the better.
  • I don't know what color this page is, but I like it. (Sort of very pale blue/gray, is how I'd describe it if you put a gun to my head.) And if tracicle comes to NYC, I'll buy her a drink and tell her how to pronounce Houston St. (so she doesn't get sneered at).
  • Sicne there's no MonkeyTalk yet, I'll ask here: am I the only user who has the block of links in the upper-right hand corner (first row: "Archives Links Profile" second row: "NewUser Search Post") leap away from their cursor whenever I get it close to the text? It's really giving me a complex - I can't DO anything, because I can't hit any of the jumping links! (unless that's just the way you wanted it, tracicle, in which case it's working very well indeed) (IE 5.0, 800x600 resolution, if that matters)
  • i get yellow dashes beneath them when i bring the cursor to them (safari/mac)
  • I see where the yellow line is going in, but when I move the cursor to click on the link (any link!), the whole block jumps about two inches south. Very odd. Oh, and welcome to the joys of administration, tracicle!
  • Guys, we've lost track of what Monkeyfilter is supposed to be, all of these posts are against the spirit of the site that Tracicle set out to create, and the new members are dragging everything that's good about MoFi through the filth. Let's face it: the time has come to close memberships so that we can work out these important problems, or at the very least feed upon each other's flesh in peace.
  • God, I've always wanted to say that.
  • I love the yellow line and I worship whomever invented it. I also love the very pale blue background and I worship whomever chose it. My hope is that these colour-selecting dieties I am worshipping are not one and the same god, and that they will battle it out above the skies in a mind-rending display of, well, godly godsomeness, in a valiant attempt to win my full worshipful attention.
  • We can thank Jack at metaphilter for the yellow line. He made it, I personally don't like it but a cursory attempt to fix it failed, so it's staying. So I'm glad you like it. yhbc, I have no words for how weird that bug is. I'll look into it. Please excuse me if I'm quiet for a couple of days: I broke a finger today playing netball and it's incredibly hard to type with my fingers taped together. (This took me about ten minutes.)
  • Oh my god! I hope you feel better tracicle! You should really not do things like break your fingers, ok? For me? Pretty please?
  • ok that was weird. I commented after tracicle told us about her finger and my comment is halfway up the page before her post. Waaacky.
  • For what it's worth, I really like the stuff that's being posted here, so carry on doing your own thing and don't worry about any other site... seems to be doing nicely by itself. :) yhbc :- I get that too.
  • languagehat -- as a fellow NYC-er, I'll back you up on the drink buying for tracicle; hell, I'll buy you one, too. As long as we're praising the color scheme -- I too like the blue-gray and burgundy (IE5.0 at home; Safari at work). I say let's not get all worked up about what's going to happen between Mo and Me (aka The 'Fi's) and let it happen. MoFi is a sandbox in the new kids' backyard, and all the kids from the neighborhood are joining in the clean sand. Let's play! *gets out pail and shovel, looking to put sand down someone's pants*
  • Excellent. And not a trace of urine.
  • What's that puddle in the corner then? *furtively zips up pants* yhbc et al - the links seem fine to me on either IE or FireBird and XP at 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600. I experienced a similar problem when setting up BuoyTalk and found that it was related to the size of the space allocated for the nav bar in the stylesheet. Can't remember exactly what I did to fix it, though :-(
  • *cries*
  • *hands baby jesus a tissue* Would someone please at least keep dg away from the bathtub?
  • I can't believe you made baby jesus cry.
  • dg, now that I accidentally found BuoyTalk (your masive promotion efforts apparently failed to reach me earlier) I see the same bug happens to me on that site as well - it's probably a glitch in the MetaPhilter templates that the sites use. And yes, it's still very annoying, because I end up chasing the block of links all the way off the page, and never catching them, and you're all being deprived of my FPPs as a result. Harumph, harumph! I think at this site, I'll cultivate a more "grumpy yet endearingly curmudgeonish" persona. How am I doing so far?
  • *pours sand down dg's pants* It was either that or stick your nose in it.
  • yhbc I think at this site, I'll cultivate a more "grumpy yet endearingly curmudgeonish" persona. How am I doing so far? More grump, less curmudgeon and I think you've got it. [off topic] Thanks again for posting the emails some of us sent you during a previous MeTa new user thread. [/off topic]
  • yhbc, I wondered if it was something to do with the default MetaPhilter template/stylesheet. See how I cunningly tricked you into doing my testing? In the meantime, try http://juju.net.nz/mfx/post.php if you want to post here. ... "grumpy yet endearingly curmudgeonish" persona. Needs more cowbell.
  • Wait wait, persona? You mean you don't have to display your "inner blah blah blah" on the 'net?! Anybody interested in joining a crew of monkey airpirates? We steal from the rich...that's pretty much it actually.
  • Geez I gotta take a class on this whole HTML thing... I don't care what Nana says--- it could be big someday!
  • PEZ - I love you. And Wendell - you've got a way about you. In fact, you're my new icon.
  • Lavendar, red and yellow? Darling? Seriously?
  • Blaise, love, you are so three-weeks-ago. This is the color combination of the Future! Kind of a revitalized Art Deco/Frank Lloyd Wright melding which raises our energy and calms our tendencies to bash each other's sincere opinions. How can we be mean to each other on a lavender background? Speaking of which, have you noticed how polite they're being to each other on Metafilter? Though it could just be holiday spirit. They may not say "please" and "thank you" as often as they might, but it's been a while since the "f" word, "I hate you, hate you, hate you!" or "asshat" have been thrown into their mix.
  • Oh, and, what is UTC time? (Yeah, I know, it's going to take some time to bring me up to speed.
  • I hate you fuckin' asshats.
  • UTC is the fancy version of GMT. I blame the French.
  • Oh God! It feels so good to be able to talk with some of the mefiers. Thanks tracicle for giving us, the left behind, this opportunity! But I'm still no Mefi member, and right now I fell like I'm a second rate citizen. Hopefully this felling won't last long since it seems that the monkey has more mommentum than the blue. I hope so. One more thing. Switching back and fort between the blue and the lavender makes them look more darker and whiter respectively. Ow, my eyes!!
  • tracicle - could we blame the Belgians for a change? I think they're feeling left out. Zemat - second rate? No! You're part of the new Establishment.
  • I like to think of us as being New Money.
  • So, are visiting Mefiers are going to start contributing in the style "Back in Mefi/Russia, double posts are a cherished tradition..."
  • ooh, I didn't realise baby jesus had been with us for so long!
  • Ah, the first "fuck Mefi, we're having fun!" post!
  • I never was on Mefi. I was introduced to MoFi first and never found a reason to wander to this "Blue" place people talked of.
  • Alnedra, baby jebus has been in our hearts forever.
