World of Warcraft! Who's up for kicking some butt on Azeroth and Kalimdor?

Via this thread on MetaTalk (see also here), a bunch of us have gotten together to play and form guilds. The Alliance Guild (Mefites) is up and running, but the Horde Guild has yet to get enough members. Since I prefer playing Horde, I'd really like to see a Guild get created for us, especially since I created new characters specifically to play with fellow Mefites on a new server. I see no reason why you Monkeys should miss out on all the fun. We're on Shadowsong for both Alliance and Horde. Anyone interested?

  • How does it work to move across servers? I have a pile of characters on bronzebeard... btw, if you don't know this game, run away while you can. It is horribly addictive...
  • You can't move characters, you just have to start over from scratch. Yes, it sucks. I think I must've done the Undead starting area 6 or 7 times at this point (I also played during the Beta and Stress test).
  • I fear I'm on Azjol-Nerub, though my primary character is already in a guild. When I have enough free time to actually play again, I'll see if I can't drop by.
  • Am I the only monkey who plays City of Heroes?? I'd join, but I'm dedicated to my existing MMORPG addiction.
  • I'll join. I'm pretty new to WoW, ot a level 12 on another server. But I'd be willing to start over a new one if it meant I could get in a guild. I don't get to play very often, but it is fun so far.
  • I am totally in. Need a Warlock? Totally my favorite Hoarde class. And I am the prettiest undead girl in every group. Is Shadowsong an RP server? What time zone is it(or did it used to be) in?
  • Koko, I used to play City of Heroes and enjoyed it quite a bit, but my guild migrated to WoW. I think I liked CoH more, to be honest, but I'm not a power gamer and I don't get addicted to MMORPGs so I doubt my opinion matters... I'm on another server with my guild at the moment, but if I get an urge to start a new character I will definitely seek you all out on Shadowsong.
  • Not sure what time zone it's in, but it's listed as a "Normal" server (not PvP). I'm on the East Coast, but I don't think that makes a difference. Look for Stynxno - he's the man with the plan (charter). Not sure how many more signatures we need. And come say hi to me - Mausoleia - also the prettiest Undead chick in every group. ;)
  • I'd join. I'll cook something up.
  • Actually, a question; would tauren be a bad idea for this guild?
  • yo. tauren is fine but most of us are undead. send me a message if you're in game.
  • *sulks*
  • I was thinking of picking up a new game today. Before I read this, I was thinking of Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube, but now I am thinking of World of Warcraft. I have never played a MMORPG game before so I am hesitant to drop the cash then have to pay a monthly fee.
  • Elsbet: we could always use a warlock (portals are fun). and we only need 2 more signatures till we're good to go.
  • I hope Shadowsong isn't one of those problem servers. I kind of want to start a rogue. I played one to lev 10 before giving up in frustration because the server was so flaky, but I enjoyed the class. I'm also tempted to play a priest instead, if you guys are lacking healers. Let me know, my gf is out of town so I actually get to play this weekend. :) I have a shammy and lock, both horde, on kargath now. Great server, does anyone else play there?
  • I too am a CoH addict. I cannot even begin to consider another MManything.
  • smallish bear - I only encounter laggy problems when I'm in one of the big cities like Ogrimmar or Ironforge. And even then, it's usually when I'm close to the bank or the auction house. Of course, my computer isn't the fastest thing on the planet, so that could be part of it. I haven't had problems anywhere else that I've been so far. brokevespa - I had never played one before either, but now I'm totally addicted. It is a lot of money to drop for something that you're not sure you're going to like (I had the advantage of having played for free in the beta testing, so I knew how awesome it was). But, I promise you, if you like gaming, you'll get sucked in and love it like the rest of us. I even have dreams about the stupid game. What more endorsement do you need? ;) And, you get to play with fellow Monkeys. How cool is that?
  • I too am a CoH addict. Finally!! What server do you play on, schadenfreude?
  • MsVader, that's normal for me too. I'll start sometime this weekend, or possibly tonight. Elsbet, have you started yet? If anyone else is rolling a new character, post what race/class here and maybe we can start together. I'm leaning towards rogue, and I'll pick a race to start with other monkeys if I can- some company will make the first few levels more fun.
  • You are not the only one who plays CoH. I ordered WOW back in November, and eventually just canceled it in January, because noone had it, and everyone had in on backorder.
  • Koko, I play schaden-freude on Pinnicle I hate the hyphen, but someone else beat me to my handle. Where do you hang your tights?
  • I'm Lethargy, a lvl 36 Night Elf Priest(ess) on Eredar. I have been wanting to play a Hordie, though. This game has eaten my entire life. Seriously, I'm glad my girlfriend is working full time and has a full load of classes, otherwise, she would have left me by now. I come home, angry at my dog because he wants to be walked. So...Shadowsong it is. I'm going to make a Tauren...something. Name will be Armagorgor
  • Monkeys are welcome to join the "Mefites" Alliance guild on Shadowsong, although I didn't originally plan for mofi involvement (thus the name). I wish I had thought of that. We've got about 12 or so people in the guild at this point, with at least five that are pretty active. I'd like to get more and also get more organized. Any of the current members are able to iniate new members into the guild, so you might post when you'll be on so you can be added (if you're interested). My character, which is also the guild master for "Mefites" is "Thereal". BTW, Thereal is a priest, as is my main character, "Morugar" on Silvermoon, who is now at level 29. I've enjoyed playing a priest; Morugar is very definitely a "shadow prist" and has been quite good for soloing. In Thereal's case, I intend to put all skill points into holy so she'll be a pure healer, good for groups. I'm creating a domain and website for the guild and/or other things. It'll be www.mefites.com and the domain should be active soon with something up shortly thereafter. Hmm, also I'm experimenting with running a Ventrilo voice chat server for voice chat in game—which should make groupings a lot more fun. Assuming other people can use it. It's free.
  • Bah. WoW is a pretty damn cool MMORPG but I've become a WoW widow over the past couple of months. My boyfriend is obsessed and doesn't want to do much except play these days.
  • rhiannon - don't be a widow. Get in the game with him. I play with my boyfriend all the time. We love it. kmellis - glad you found this thread. I was going to chat with you about this, but I haven't been online as Alliance in a while and you beat me to it. ;)
  • "rhiannon - don't be a widow. Get in the game with him. I play with my boyfriend all the time. We love it." That may or may not work. People really and truly do get addicted to these games; and I say that as someone who is very skeptical of the larger "some pop culture thing is addicting" accusation. The games are designed with classic human reward response curves in mind. Some people can't control their playing. I know at least one marriage that ended in divorce over a husband's EQ playing. I have more than one friend that has been dysfunctional in playing EQ and, recently, a friend who's stayed home from work and other things to play WoW. That's a problem. Playing along with them won't help. ...unless you can structure it in such a way that your playing with them provides a means for controlling the addiction and thus allowing it to be a healthy recreational activity. There may be an effective strategy for doing so, but you might do some research and ask for some professional advice about it. "kmellis - glad you found this thread. I was going to chat with you about this, but I haven't been online as Alliance in a while and you beat me to it. ;)" I found it when it was first posted. And, even though I'm a long-term monkey (look at my low userid, woohoo!), and I like mofi, the whole charter of "mefites" was to be a mefi guild and I worried a) that some mefite might not approve; and b) it also offended my stupid OCD type sensibilities. Especially with the name conflict. Happily, after revisiting the thread, I decided that both those concerns were stupid. Or at least that I'm willing to disregard them for the greater good. :)
  • schadenfreude, alas, my tights are firmly hung on the Triumph server (currently alternating between Singh and Happy Scrappy), although I also have characters on Protector and Guardian. I guess we won't be teaming any time soon! :-)
  • Are there any Monkeys who are still interetsed? I haven't seen any new faces yet and am hoping that it's only due to mismatched schedules. Look for me in game (Mausoleia). I'll probably be online tonight, and at other random points over the weekend. Come to think of it, I haven't seen our guild charter holder online recently either. Where are you, Stynxno?
  • I've just got World of Warcraft - I'm a total n00b, never played an MMORPG before, and am slightly intimidated by the prospect to be honest... Any monkeys still playing?
  • I've stopped for the last two months (still been paying, though). I've had half-a-mind to start playing again. There's lots of nice folks about, though. If I had it installed (I've been doing lots of reconfigurations of my computers), I'd offer to guide you through the basics since you sound a little intimidated. But it'd take forever for me to get WoW installed tonight. But I mention my willingness to be helpful because there's lots of people that like to be helpful. You could maybe just ask someone on the general channel if they'd help you get started and if they sound like they're a 13-year old boy, ignore them. :)
  • We've revived plans for MeFi/MoFi guilds! There's a guild called JRun Refugees on the brand spanking new Cho'gall server for all of you Alliance-inclined monkeys (see info here). Yes, there are queues to get onto the server, but we're hoping that dies down once the novelty of "hey, it's a new server!" wears off. And if you're like me and just can't fathom leaving the Horde, we've got an existing guild that we'd love to open up to good people (no obnoxious 12 year old rogues allowed!). Info on that can also be found at the above link. As kmellis said above, there are lots of helpful folks out there. I'll volunteer myself as well. I appreciated all of the guidance and patience as I learned the ropes, so I'd love to give someone else a helping hand. And hey, if I can play this game (no hand-eye coordination whatsoever), anyone can. And everyone should. ;) Crack, I tell you! CRACK!
