Prevention of Alzheimer's Disease Pathology by Cannabinoids: Neuroprotection Mediated by Blockade of Microglial Activation
...is the title of a new paper that argues Marijuana can combat the effects of Alzheimer's. According to animal models, when cannabinoid receptors on diseased brain tissue become activated swelling is reduced and brain functioning apparently improves. Of course, the scientists involved don't recommend smoking up... they recommend waiting for a synthetic cannabinoid drug that will reduce inflamation but won't get you high, but personally I prefer organic herbs to synthetic chemicals. How's 'bout you?
-
Same preference, pass the cockbong. 606, are you a Chicago DJ? I seem to remember going to a "606 hip-hop" open mic here a couple years ago when I didn't feel I had the balls to step up to the mic. 606** = Chicago zips by the way, thus the question.
-
Nope, not I. 606 is a pretty common DJ name (I stole it from Kid 606).
-
"I prefer organic herbs to synthetic chemicals. How's 'bout you?" Uh, I'm sorry, what were you talking about?
-
they recommend waiting for a synthetic cannabinoid drug that will reduce inflamation but won't get you high Why sure, my brain inflammation can wait!

... and in related news ...

Dude, get me a Pepsi.

"But the researchers said the link was not likely to be due to people with mental illness having a greater wish to smoke cannabis." Uh-huh. How did they figure that "not more likely"? How does one quantify a desire?
-
So tell me again, how do they know the stoned people don't have Alzheimer's?
-
Re: fish tick's story: "These findings add to the growing body of evidence from different sources, all of which suggest that heavy use of cannabis may lead to increased risk of psychotic symptoms and disease in susceptible individuals." So that's heavy use by susceptible individuals, eh? Hmm... so that's statistics against a detailed explanation of the cannabis receptors in the brain and experimental results in animal models. What can I say. I know where the smart money lies.

The Roland 606, as used by Uberzone, Cirrus, Sneaker Pimps, Download, Aphex Twin, Astral Projection, Nine Inch Nails, Mr. Oizo, Jimi Tenor, Kid 606, OMD, Moby, Freddy Fresh, Autechre, Luke Vibert, and Union Jack. I used to have one of these, but I don't miss it, as the sound is brittle and tinny and the programming is fiddly.
-
Wolof: yeah, exactly. I like brittle and tinny sound, and finicky programming interfaces. I like glitch and Warp stuff. Oh, I think Kid 606 uses a software-simulated 606 in Reaktor, so the programming interface is probably not an issue for him.

Hey! There's a history of Alzheimer's in my family. Looks like it's time to toke up!

Scientists Discover How Fish Oil Protects the Brain

I forgot all about this thread!

According to this, my brain will survive until the year 2657.

Me lose brain?

What were we talking about, again?
