New Yorker satire by Ian Frazier. Biting and funny take on Jerry Falwell's autobiography.
  • nice
  • Dad's pranks "bordered on cruelty"? How about dad's pranks were "batshit crazy insane"? I can't even get through the rest of it, I'm still boggled by the idea that a person could think that his dad's actions in that story "bordered on cruelty." Plus, y'know, I feel sick.
  • YE hypocrites! are these your pranks? To murder men and give God thanks! Another timeless message from Rabbie Burns
  • I read this yesterday. I thought, no, this can't be a direct quote from an autobiography. Because 1. It's a horrible thing to do; 2. It's a wretched thing to relate to one's son; 3. And the son perpetuates it in print?!? God gave us dominion v. Jesus wept.
  • Actually, I did learn something from this article. There was a repeated reference to his father's pranks as "taking revenge". Perhaps that is how some people feel about homosexual marriage - that is a personal affront and offense to them. Somehow they feel that if two men or two women get married, it affects them personally as well. So it's not just about religion, it's personal as well.
  • Sometimes our-father-in-heaven's pranks border on cruelty:
7 And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him. 8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. 9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. 10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also. -- Genesis 38: 7-10
  • At least he didn't pee on it
  • LOL, Jerry! What's more rich, calling a one legged employee "Crip", or substituting his beloved cat for a paltry dish of squirrel meat? Ah, Life In These Unitied States, as the Reader's Digest would say....
