Curious George: Mac Audio I want to make .wavs of my Mac voices saying different things. How do I do this?

I use OS 10.2.8, with a 300mhz G3, if that matters... Delete this if the question is too dumb to warrant a Curious George...

  • Audio Hijack Pro can record the operating system and other application sounds to an AIFF, AAC, or MP3. You can then use SoundConverter to convert from them to WAV.
  • Sweet. Thanks. Didja ever sign up for audioscrobbler?
  • Sounds cool. I'll check it out -- thanks!
  • WireTap (free) and QuickTime Pro (not free) will do the job too. Just record the sounds with WireTap, and export to .wav with QT.
  • Ah, thanks. I have an mp3 to wav converter (helpfully named "Mp3toWav") but couldn't figure out how to get the voices down...
  • If you want a computer voice that isn't specifically the Mac voice you can also get wavs directly from AT&Ts text-to-speech thingy. Also: there's no need to convert an aiff to a wav - unless you need to dump it onto a PC.
  • It's easier than that, at least in 10.3. In a terminal, just use: say -o file.aiff hello monkeyfilter Say(1) has more options; check the man page.
  • Heh. If I had a computer that could run 10.3, I'd run it.
