Making Sense Of Marcel Duchamp. An excellent primer on one of the First Modern Men.
  • By that, I expect you mean he was one of the first men to get pissed on Foster's, make some jokes to his mates at the expense of women, drive home and masturbate into his copy of Maxim?
  • whoa, somebody is a fan of realism.
  • BBF-- Maybe you're thinking of someone else?
  • Blaise - I've just got pissed on Fosters, made some jokes to a mate at the expense of women (mostly at performance poets, admittedly, but some were about women) and walked home. Can I borrow your copy of Ma- oh, forget it.
  • You're on the internet, flashboy - what the fuck would you need Maxim for? (the articles, obviously, always, the articles)
  • for that aura of respectability, that veneer of class that its lovingly produced, non-stick pages evoke. oh, and i've got a slow dial-up connection.
  • Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase is completely fascinating, even if you're not into "modern" art. The feeling of motion can really trap you - though I was disappointed to find that you couldn't click on the image to get a larger view. The 1887 photo montage of a nude woman descending a stair and turning was a great touch, though. And, his earlier, more representional works are really nice. I wasn't familiar with Duchamp's other works, but there's some cool stuff in there. The Bride Stripped one was a surprise, especially the "love gasoline." Another nice thing is that you can play a bit with some of the later works on the site. I'm on dial-up, too, but found the short waits for segment loading were not too annoying. Thank you, Dizzy!
