A brief history of timelines expressed as a timeline. Next stop: a chronology of postings about the timeline of timelines.
  • I did not see the timeline for the Star Wars universe contained anywhere in that site. Useless.
  • Did anyone figure out that Yucca Mountain diagram at the very end? The dots are obviously stars, and a rotation axis is shown on a star in Cassiopeia. My interpretation is that the waste is ok when this star becomes the pole star. However I'm not sure why certain angular distances are marked off. That pointy thing on the left makes no sense either.
  • Looking at star charts, actually it's Draco. But don't the constellations change rapidly? If they do I don't see the point.
  • I couldn't figure out the Yucca mountain diagram at all. Me, Og, find good picture. Me dig more.

  • The diagramme has to do with the half life of the radioactive material, or somethinge measured in the lifetime of stars. Basically big squares make eggheads angry, but if you turn back time to when the squares are smaller, and realize the paradox then the egghead will be pleased. I grok said the croc.
  • Think I appreciate most Lawrence Sterne's notion of time, as this seems to correspond most closely to the ways in which I experience time in the course of daily life.
  • Me, I wish MoMA worked the way it does in the diagram. Like some sort of cultcha UFO.
  • Constellations do not change rapidly. Precession causes the celestial poles to change slowly, but at a much faster than a star's apparent motion against the celestial background. The star at the start of the arrow is polaris, and the direction of the arrow coincides with the direction of celestial rotation. Both of these help suggest the image is about a new celestial north at the cross hairs. The celestial north pole (CNP) was in draco around 2300 BC. It takes about 25.7 thousand years for CNP to return to its starting point, so it should return to draco in around 21,000 years, about 23,000 AD. The bisecting of the arrow is probably done to be a clue towards halflife. The shrinking squares also seems to be a clue about halflife. The number of squares is probably significant. I would guess that 7 or 7.5 would be the number of times it substance halved, which could be a clue towards what the substance is. Or it could mean let the CNP pass draco 7 times, which would push the date to about 200,000 AD. The squares also happen to be placed on the hour divisions of a clock. This also may be an attempt to pass on some kind of info, but I'm not sure what. The ecliptic north pole (ENP) lies inside draco right now. I have no info on the travel of the ENP. It should be extremely slight though, and remain at near the same location for a length of time far outside the range we are dealing with. This could cause confusion for the future race trying to interpret the symbols. The constellations on the image are: most of Cygnus Draco Ursa Minor part of Ursa Major (the Big Dipper) outside of these four constellations, there one other star included, called Alderamin, part of Cepheus. It's a bright star, so it's likely just for reference. I can't read any of the expression on the faces. They kinda freak me out though.
  • They look like buddhas. And one of them just ate something nasty. I thought that the stars were the nasty radiation leaking out and making poor Buddha sick. Let's hope that the beings of the future have more in common with Mr. Knickerbocker than me!
