Pancake racing is upon us again. The official Olney site.

The Olney race is over 500 years old, but for the last 50 there has been a parallel race in Liberal, Kansas. The Olney one is the most famous, but there are pancake races all over England - London, for example, Wiltshire, and Canterbury. There are also regular ones in Washington and Karlsruhe.

  • I bought my ingredients this lunchtime. Pancakes for tea! Woo hoo! Only sugar and lemon, mind. Anything else is gilding the lilly.
  • Ah, pancake racing--the last pure sport! I competed in the Spitalfields Pancake Race last year but have retired from the field this year. (Warning: that's a self link.)
  • Next week is National Pancake Week. New York State ranks #2 in the United States after Vermont in maple syrup production. New York onions are known for their bold flavor, due to the unique soil composition. Pigs first came to the Americas on Christopher Columbus's ship. If I work at this agricultural college any longer, I'll go mad with farm trivia.
  • Beetroot is good for you. KITFISTO TRUFAX!
  • Ah, pancakes! I made nine yesterday: even the first was good, but, as is always the way for some strange reason of pancake science, each was better than the one before.
  • I had cornmeal, cheddar, chili and corn pancakes with salsa, sour cream and *more* cheddar on top. Yum.
