The Big Picture (pdf) on National Missile Defense. In the next few months the Canadian Government will have to decide whether they want to support the U.S. National Missile Defense System. So it would be nice to know if it's doomed to fail? or if it's a flawed scheme that can be fixed with some tweaking?. Either way anti-missile technologies have a troubled track record.
  • well, even the u.s. may not be supporting the u.s. missile defense system. from AFP today... Missile defense takes big hit in 2006 budget plan BYLINE: Jim Mannion DATELINE: WASHINGTON Feb 7 The Pentagon plans to cut spending on missile defense by five billion dollars over the next six years, slashing a program to develop a "boost phase" interceptor missile, senior defense officials said. The cuts were proposed to Congress Monday in a 2006 budget submission that lops a billion dollars off the Missile Defense Agency's budget in the first year, and 800 million dollars a year for the next five years. They are the largest cuts to the program under President George W. Bush, a champion of missile defense, showing that war costs and mounting deficits were biting even into programs once considered sacrosanct by conservatives.
  • cool chart.
Chemical or biological bomblets impossible to stop.
"bomblets" makes them sound so cute...
  • I thought we already took care of MISSILE DEFENSE
  • Given every Canadian's God-given right to pot and free health care, I really hope they're stupid enough to join us in our mad quest to stop a bullet w/ a bullet. Maybe they'll opt to smack us upside the head and scream "Snap out of it!" That'd be cool too.
  • I thought that recent leaks suggested that the deal is nearly done. I have never felt a greater sense of political paralysis. Democracy, my ass. If it's what that buffoon wants (our buffoon, not your buffoon), what can we do?
  • Which buffoon? I thought Canadians didn't have a buffoon. Perhaps I'm wrong. I thought it had been proven that this is a boondoggle ...
  • Our Prime Minister can't bend over for Bush fast enough. As pundits remind us every ten seconds, our economy depends on exports to the US. We are so lazy/complacent that we haven't bothered to seriously explore oversea markets for our abundant natural resources. Just trucking them to our neighbor is so much easier! Paul Martin is making loud stupid noises on same-sex marriage to drown out concerns over missile defense. Whatev. I've learned to stop worrying and love the Iraq war (if American troops are there, they can't be elsewhere). Surely there will be bright sides to missile defense.
  • Meh. Haven't you heard, kenshin? They're sending robots to Iraq now, remote controlled, with machine guns. It's a humanitarian effort. On second thought, we have a buffoon. I cannot decide if you have an idiot or an asshole. I suppose they're not mutually exclusive. No offence.
