The Man's the Gowd:
Robert Burns Day: I'll be spending much of it with the Canongate Burns, a volume I've recently been savouring, its inclusion of many items not formerly attributed to Burns make it a fascinating read.
Here's a glossary, for those whose Scots is rusty. Traditionally, fine speeches (that is, both brief and witty), Scotch whisky, and possibly a haggis attend the festivities -- but the heart of the matter is good company and congeniality. So, here's to ye, monkeys!

Gee, with a fortnight's notice given and all, I guess thsi was always going to be a big day for you. Och aye na noo!
-
"thsi". Ptiu.
-
Ah, dear Wolof, thta is but a typo. Alas, for "inclusion...make" above please read "inclusion...makes". [Dammit!]
-
Alas, last year, couldn't attend the Burns Night festivities, because one in my household slipped and fell and fractured things. Too exciting in all the wrong ways! But O where did this great storm of snow come from? Is this to be another conspiracy of fate?
-
I can't believe it's up to me to say this, but Happy Robbie Burns day 2007! Put on the Tartan Chillout Album, and have a wee dram and eat haggis and whatever it is Scots do today. I'll try to have a Tartan chillout of my own.

I hope me Scots ancestors will forgive me if I stick to red ale and veggie pizza. I'll raise a sporran in their honour, though.
