I've made some inroads into the classic photos. The Nadar stuff is wonderful. Sarah Bernhardt was really lovely as a young woman. Also, I had never seen
Man Ray's work before, even though I'd read about it in Henry Miller's tales. That was nice.
But, ok, possibly revealing my cluelessness here, The fallen angel picture on the title page is right out of the REM vidio for Losing My Religion. Is there some classical painting or statue that both are based on?

Great stuff. Funny, just looking at the Paul Strand thumbnail on the main photo page I guessed he was working in Ireland. Turns out it was actually the Hebrides, but maybe there is an easily identifiable Celtic face. Or perhaps it was clues in the background.
