Paul Newman For Senate In 2006 According to Atrios, Newman is gunning for Joe Lieberman's seat. I say good. I am not a Lieberman fan.

Atrios doesn't link a source, but the guy is not Drudge and he's plugged into a lot of sources. I'm wondering if he got the tip from the DNC or a journalist. I'm not sure if Newman will actually run for the Connecticut Senate seat. I am certain that he will kill the Senator with his star power if he does. Remember, we are talking about a guy that made John Kerry look charismatic in the primaries. 'Nough said

  • It would be nicer if he could find a Republican to run against...
  • He's running against Lieberman ... oh, wait, that guy is a Democrat (barely).
  • Does Newman even live in CT?
  • That would be good news if it is true, because I dislike Joe Lieberman and enjoy Newman's Own pasta sauce, but Atrios isn't a very reliable website so I will wait for this to pop up on a news site that isn't wrong all the time.
  • Let me get this straight...the entire basis of this post, and indeed the entire story, is six words on Atrios, with no source and no explanation?
  • It would be nicer if he could find a Republican to run against... assuming Newman does run and beats Joe in the primary, he would run against a Republican. or are you suggesting that Newman should run in the Republican primary, and hope to face Joe in the general election?
  • I've met Paul Newman three times, and he is not the kind of person to suffer fools gladly. I hope he makes it all the way. This country needs it's fools exposed and brought up short. To hell with 'let's make nice.' Bite'em in the balls.
  • Joe Lieberman sucks ('nuff said)
  • Newman turned 80 four days ago. FYI, the mandatory retirement age for Canadian Senators is 75.
  • I have relatives who lived in Old Saybrook, Connecticut for many years. They have seen him there. I believe he lives there. 80 is way too old.
  • I wouldn't say that some chronological age is too old for politics. Is he too old to what?....think? represent his constituents? be able to shmooz and convince his fellow legislators? Or has politics become a contact sport.
  • or are you suggesting that Newman should run in the Republican primary, and hope to face Joe in the general election? What I'm suggesting is that even though Lieberman is a conservative Democrat, he's still a Democrat. The guy's a goofball, but he's no Zell Miller. So if Paul Newman were to take Lieberman's seat in the senate, that doesn't do much to shift the overall balance of power, it just leaves Mr. Rogers out of a job. When it comes to celebrities entering politics, it never really seems to matter where you live, you can pretty much buy an apartment anywhere and run against anyone you want. Why not find a sitting Repulican up for reelection somewhere and go after his seat instead?
  • Right. Because a pro-censorship theocrat like Lieberman is just what the Democratic party need, STP. Losing would make no difference to the Dems.
  • I know that Newman used to live in Connecticut, in any case, because he was a customer of my friend's family's men's clothing store.
  • First his delicious range of salad creams and sauces, and now this? For fuck's sake Newman, stop trying to take over the universe AGAIN.
  • I think that age is a very important factor. I know 80 year olds. I know of very, very few who can make it through a 40-50 hour work week. Our society seems to think that hiring a person in their 60's is crazy because of their energy levels and susceptibility to illness and, well, death. But for some reason we are comfortable electing people who are much older than people we would want to answer telephones. I don't think that there should be a law against it or anything, I am just very unlikely to vote for someone that I don't think will be able to work full-time for six years.
  • You think senators work a 40-hour week?
  • I hope. Allow me my fantasies.
  • Well, OK, you can believe the 40-hour week. Plese don't delude yourself to the extent of thinking they work anything like 50 weeks a year, though.
  • Lieberman's a (thinly veiled)Republican.
  • Lieberman's the perfect representative for Connecticut.
