Paul Spooner's definitely worth looking into, if you like this kind of thing (most of the "Automata Cabaret" models are his). His designs are excellent and show an extraordinary level of both technical and visual creativity. In fact, I'm kind of wishing I'd focused the post more on him.

Upon further reading, the one that I billed as a lady pretending to be an automaton is putated to be an actual automaton. I'm not sure I believe it, though - the hands and eyes don't look right. Neither does the motion. And I have trouble believing even a hand-cranker would run that quietly.
