Fundamentalism AND Racism! A Winning Combination in Alabama
Following up on this post concerning the questionable beliefs of Justice Thomas about law and religion, it turns out that Thomas, the only African-American member of the U.S. Supreme Court, also swore in an avowed white supremacist to the Alabama Supreme Court.
-
Please, refer to him by his proper name: Justice Uncle Thomas.
-
It seems to me that an awful lot of avowed racists manage to get themselves elected to influential positions in the US.
-
Maybe waving the Stars and Bars just means he's big on Bo and Luke. (And some of Bo and Luke's best friends were black, right?)
-
Who wants a Coke?!
-
How come all their first names are Justice? How weird is that?
-
I do feel dumb reposting this here as it doesn't directly respond to anything in either thread, but it was accidentally posted in the other Thomas thread: Well, he is a grand-Uncle. I recall reading that he was raising a grand-nephew in an article about the amount of cash/gifts he has received in relation to others on the court. It was quite astonishing to me (over the six year-period reviewed, he was the top recipient outstripping the other justices by $30,000 or more), given how much judges in general (and their codified ethics rules) seem to be concerned with the appearance of things regardless of actual influence, and I imagine his gifts would be a big topic in any confirmation hearing for the position.
