Jerry Garcia - great musician AND music instructor.
I love reading new stories about people I've heard so much about before. It's the hidden stuff that lies beneath the overt image that fascinates me. For anyone who loves the Grateful Dead this is a neat look back at a time before anyone knew who the Grateful Dead were, when the band members themselves had no idea what they would become.

Speaking of Jerry Garcia, whatever happened to our Jerry Garcia?
-
He baited the frothing right wing morons at LGF with a FPP & got RLed. This even caused some nutter to ring tracicle in the middle of the fucking night (can you believe it?) He's either licking his wounds, under a different nym, or hanging from a fucking tree somewhere. Bunch of fucking twats at LGF, can't separate their masturbation from mentation. Cunts. First up against the fucking wall when the revolution comes, my man.
-
My monitor actually used to elicit a faint odor of marijuana when he would post.
-
Yeah, our Jerry clearly went over the line, and deserved the result (especially for exposing tracicle to wingnut bile), but his was a good-righteous anger, and I miss his energy from time to time. I.e. what Nostril said.
-
As Jerry Garcia his own self went clearly over the line. When I was a young San Fran asshole, I used to amuse myself whilst waiting to change buses on Masonic and Haight by whispering to the sad-sacks lying on the street, thinking they could bring back 1967 if they lounged enough, "Hey! Did you hear? Jerry's dead, man! This morning, man! The radio stations don't want to say!" I made up for this nasty behavior by doing needle-exchange, but what a shitty little cult the Grateful Dead spawned.
-
I miss our Jerry Garcia -- hope he comes back, once he's worked out his difficulties.

I made up for this nasty behavior by doing needle-exchange, but what a shitty little cult the Grateful Dead spawned. Last I checked kharma wasn't something *you* decided ;) This long-time Dead fan thinks the "cult" is/was a beautiful thing that brought a lot of joy to his—and other's—life. Thanks for the link, SMN. I have passed it on to my fellow Kool Aid drinkers who get together weekly to celebrate the life and music Jerry and his mates created. You know ... when we aren't lying in a gutter in San Francisco wishing assholes would stop bugging us.

I'm sorry, SuperMonkeyNugget, that my ghost here derailed your lovely post. It's a stupid story that I wrote here at MonkeyFilter not so long ago (it can never be far enough in the past), but I am very happy to be remembered for my better times and I thank you for your excellent find. Best of the web for sure. Jerry Garcia was, at his best, the best of humanity. I love looking at those Jerry tabs. I've seen a few of Jerry's transcriptions elsewhere but I had no idea they had been published. I wish his estate would release more of his "doodles" beyond the artworks they print up for a few hundred bucks a pop. I'm planning to start learning banjo soon and Jerry's youthful banjo playing is an essential window into his amazing rapid-fire style of guitar playing. If more people listened to a Dead tape from 1987 with the sound of a banjo in mind, well... I look forward to reading his tablature transcriptions so thank you very much for the link. Apologia: What HawthorneWingo said: I clearly crossed a line and brought evil to the Monkey House. I didn't know that tracicle got a call, that's terrible! but she was very gracious and never mentioned that to me. I locked myself out of my account the next day by changing my password to something I couldn't remember. I self-banned so Jerry here is as dead as Jerry there. That wasn't marijuana smoke you were smelling, bernockle, more like beer fumes and wicked Scotch. Pot wouldn't lead me to a confrontation with the minions over there. I was too drunk and very upset and I came here and wrote a really, really bad FPP without consideration. I'll never do that again and I am very sorry that I upset the excellent ballance of a bunch of monkeys on a few high-up branches. Even a little bit. I miss you too, bees, and I'm very happy to see that Nostril's attitude hasn't changed. :-) I created a new account here a few days ago and I'll only post here when I'm stone cold sober. It was a rather traumatic experience and totally self-inflicted. I am better behaved because of it. My apologies, again, to Tracy, and my thanks for her kindness and understanding and encouragement. /derail

I was worried about ye. Good to hear from you again, Jerry Junior!
-
:-)
-
That's a story with a nice ending.
-
Good to have you back, Jerry.
-
Terrapin, don't worry, his name is goofy foot. Personally I can't stand the little assholish cult that skateboards have spawned. Least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

Welcome back, Jerry and your words are humbling to me and all, or I think that they should be.
