CG -- cheap digital camera Well, I bought a crappy little digital camera (Vivicam-30) today, mainly because it was incredibly cheap. I looked around on the net for a driver for it, and found this thing Vivitar call a Mac OS Beta ...

... (the file name's V30-40-50.sit), and got something that doesn't appear to work at all. Leastways the puta's not recognising the camera. So what do people do in these circumstances? All I would seem to need is the ability to see the camera and to acquire images from it -- surely there's a workaround for this? Mac OS 9 would be good (as I have all my photo stuff on that computer), but OSX is fine too (note that iPhoto can't see the camera either). Any clues? Thanks!

  • Have you read this? Really, I just wanted to say, Yo Puta.
  • graphic converter on osx can also import pictures from cameras. worth a try?
  • I tried GraphicConverter TWAIN acquire on OS9 (that feature's been there for yonks) without success, but yeah, maybe. The problem, however, is that neither machine recognises that the camera is even there, apart from powering it up as a USB device. Stirfry's (fairly inspired*) suggestion almost worked .. but it tells me that "camera's not ready". Arse. *"Inspired" because the fry suggested I use an earlier version of the software that probably shouldn't have worked at all. The fact that it half-worked is sort of encouraging. Keep 'em coming, and a big "ta!" to all contributors to this shite thread!
  • one more suggestion: is the camera itself ready for the transfer? some cameras need to be on or off or some "usb mode" to be turned on. thinking of this "camera's not ready" thing...
  • It's powered up and on, but thanks for the suggestion. I can be a bit of a dim bulb from time to time though, so no idea is too farfetched for me to try, and no obvious course of action is too obvious.
  • I take it you've alreday tried out Image Capture, on the Applications folder?
  • I had hell with my digital camera and iPhoto until I figured out that there was a button on the camera dock I needed to press to download photos onto my Powerbook. You might want to double-check whether there's a button on the camera. Simply having it on and working may not be enough to get a download. This message is brought to you by the Department of D'oh!, which is what I said when I figured out that I'd missed the big button on the front of the dock repeatedly.
  • Image Capture says there's on device connected, and the camera's in one mode only when hooked up to the PC, so no adjustment to be done there. Back to the shop for my money back, I suppose.
  • Argh* -- "no device connected", not "on device". *Dear Ron --you have no copyright on this expression. All best, etc.
