The Radio Jingle is Dead. Long live the Jingle!

I think I'll use the Old ABC Radio News Theme from that jinglefreaks link as my entrance music for awhile . . . That said, I hate (hate hate hate, etc) advertising and jingles are a part of that. Jingle writers are little better than gossip-rag "reporters". However, I'm not big on Cadillac using Led Zep tunes either. Somebody kick a baby boomer in the ass for me.

  • The Zeppelin thing pisses me off more, personally. If you want to write music for ads, that's fine. Do what you gotta do to pay the bills. But when you're a rich and talented musician, please resist the urge to put your song in a beer commercial. Don't sing for Gap ads, if you don't need the money.
  • Well, I can't say I hate advertising, since it's the reason my radio plays music for free, but I'll second (third) the LedZep thing. The problem is that a lot of the old music isn't owned by the artists, but by some sleazy ex-manager (or Michael Jackson). The real sellouts are the ones using their current songs in ads (I'm looking at you, Lenny Kravitz).
  • good point about the sleazy managers. (Hello Allen Klein? Would you sell me rights to "Satisfaction" for $1? Hey thanks!) I don't buy Nike either. And you know exactly why.
  • sheesh
