Salvia divinorum
What is salvia divinorum?
Salvia divinorum is a perennial herb in the Labiatae (mint) family, native to certain areas in the Sierra Mazateca of Oaxaca, Mexico. What are its uses? The Mazatec Indians have used it for centuries for curing and divination. For more detail on this see the article on its 'ethnopharmacology' (on the Salvia Menu - back from here). - The article makes reference to its shamanic use as an adjunct to other naturally occurring plant allies, for example, mushrooms. It mentions Salvia's context in shamanic training, suggesting it is particularly appropriate for the shamanic apprentice.

I bought some( I think it was a triple extract), and sat down at my pc. Took about three hits, and tripped incredibly hard, not being able to see but what ever was playing, I could hear it, kind of like when your dreaming and the television is on, and it`s influencing your dream. It was similar to a nitrous oxide high. Here`s where you get it http://bouncingbearbotanicals.com/
-
Good lord, is it legal? I'll be in it.
-
btw, I smoked it about three times again, then I gave the rest of the ounce I had away, it was a little to much for this old man,, not a marijuana high at all.
-
The dea was tring to make it illegal about a year, or two ago. But, it did`nt pass. I think there is one state it is illegal in, one of the estern states.
-
I heard the descriptions and thought "oh boy". Then I ordered some, smoked a bunch, felt kinda hot and itchy, but not much else. The plant is beautiful though, and loves growing indoors in indirect light. Despite retank's warning I haven't heard it's illegal anywhere in the US right now, but it is prohibited in Australia.
-
Bugger.
-
Man, I smoked this stuff before, a few times actually. For some reason I couldn't break the feeling that I was getting into my mom's Spice Rack and smoking it. Anywho, sure didn't give me a buzz at all. Don't waste your money on it.
-
A survey of Salvia Divinorum users by Erowid. Just stumbled upon this while leafing through old copies of their newsletter. Strange coincidence. I've only tried leaves, never extract. Haven't exactly tripped on it, but weird stuff has happened. Salvia gravity has always been present. Very weird indeed.
-
maverick: A lot of people seem unaffected by smoking SD. Especially if they're smoking leaves and not extract. I only got effect from leaves after smoking it from a bong with a torch (storm lighter). Joints doesn't work (for me at least). Friends of mine who have done extract says it definitely does work and that it's one of the strongest and weirdest psychedelics they've ever tried. It's too bad they've just classified it as a pharmaceutical over here. Not illegal, but you've got to get a note from your doctor if you want to import it.
-
(snicker) smoking this stuff is like smoking magic mushrooms: it aint gonna work. Ingestion, people. Ingestion.
-
Sorry for laughin'. I s'pose the joke's on me, in the end. Remember kids: Just say no to drugs. Leaves more for me.
-
hehe, my friends tried smoking shrooms once, they said the only thing they got off of it was a horrible taste in there mouth for 2 days. Also, what's the legality in the states, I purchased it online and had it shipped to my college...
-
let me clear that up, what's the legality on SD
-
hehe, he had it shipped to his college. Oh no, you're not on the list! hehe! I'm sure no one paid any attention! Dooop! Here come the brain police! j/k
-
Had a square in high school try to get hip with me once: "Man, I think this substitute teacher smokes a lot of LSD."
-
Hmmm, I wonder how this would react with perscription meds (i.e. anti depressants)? I've always been one to "never say never", but I have been feeling so consistantly good lately that I'm not too sure that I want to fix what ain't broken.

Trying out a new substance while sitting inf ront of a (supposedly) net-connected computer: now that's dangerous... /flinches at bad memories

Up in the mountains, in a cluster of hotsprings, did some. Made the little ball and held it in my mouth for way, way, way too long (nasty taste and overall feeling of 'please can I spit it out now?') effects set in in about 20 minutes, fast thoughts, pictures in the rocks and increasing physical discomfort. 'Too hot in the spring, too cold in the night air' became the theme for the evening. Can't say I'd recommend it.
-
I tried some 2 years ago. Bought 1/4 oz for $10 online. First time me and a friend smoked it, although he was wary because he hadn't heard of it. Found the key was to smoke as fast as possible, although you end up getting an oxy dep high as much as a salvia high. Found that treating it like chewin tobacco (stuff I hate) works better, and the high lasts longer. My trip, on smoking, about 2 minutes after finishing, fairly intense trip came on, whole new world around me. Lasted maybe 5 or 6 minutes, then had about an hour of a light high (like a gentle wake and bake). Upon chewing, had a less intense trip, but lasted about 25 minutes. Threw the rest away, is ok, but not for me.

Grew some of this, it's availible at most gardening shops as a groundcover (along with San Pedro cactus). First off, you have to smoke AS MUCH AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN all within the first hit or so, as tolerance goes up almost immediately. Then you're in for a very psychoactive half an hour. Then, well, nothing really. Except feeling groggy. Final verdict? Just buy some goddamn pot, kids. Or mushrooms. Or San Pedro. I'm all for blown minds (in fact, I think society is currently worse for not having a widespread psychedelic experience), but this ain't the place to start from. At least it's better for you than datura.
-
I prefer banana peels.
-
Basics here.
-
My lungs are getting too rusty to smoke much anymore; I'm wondering what these taste like.
-
Salvia is not for everyone. Some people she really likes, others she doesn't get along with. js has the closest account to my experiance. I found it to be a very personal trip. Just about the only psychoactive substance I would prefer to do alone. Go ahead a try her, but keep and open mind. And for those of you who don't understand why I am refering to Salvia as "her," read this book. In fact, read it before you do any hallucinogen (regardless of personal experiance in the field). It will show you the proper attitude to take.
-
waraw, 'these' are not really close to the prototypical psychedelics.
-
Waraw, Gyan- Those are psychedelics. They're called analogues, and are all illegal, even the ones not invented yet. Most of the ones that we do have were developed and tested by Dr. Andrew Shulgin (hence the Shulgin scale of psychoactive experience) and work in ways similar to good ol' LSD. I've known people who have been doing them at least since the early '90s, but never been able to get any myself. Lemme know how they turn out.
-
waraw, there's always Cannabrex.
-
js, I meant in terms of experience and similarity, not type of activity. I've tried a few of them. I wouldn't compare acid and 2C-I, 2C-E as being in the same ballpark. Most of the analogues are not scheduled, although one could presumably be prosecuted under the Analogues act. Internet-based googleable dealers were taken down in July by the DEA. Technically, many of them are still not scheduled, so the ban on their sale/possession rests on whether the intent is human consumption, similar to plant sources for mescaline, DMT and others.

This discussion is reminding me a lot of that scene in Go. "And you know what makes it even better? If you smoke a lot of pot. I mean a LOT of it."
-
I grow mint, but use it for a sauce with lamb. Perhaps I shall boost the fertilizers.

How Hallucinogenic Sage Works
-
I'm gonna try it. Any suggestions about a good mail order source?
-
Take a look at the YouTube videos showing people on good and bad SD trips before you depart.

Hallucinogen’s Popularity May Thwart Medical Use

Hallucinogen’s Popularity May Thwart Medical Use Same old story. Kind of supports my theory that if medical marijuana was sold the same way other prescription drugs are, it would be a lot easier and more effective to get it in the hands of the people who need it without muddying the waters with the people who are just in it for fun, which is an entirely separate issue.

I have tried SD twice now. 10x extract from Purple Sticky Salvia. The first time, I smoked 3 hits and was immediately tripping heavily (within 60 seconds). Got this weird "twisty" feeling. I felt totally flat (as in two dimensional) and as I lay there I felt that my consciousness was like dorsal fin of a fish cutting through the otherwise placid plane of the space-time continuum. Lasted 20- 30 minutes then I felt stoned for another hour but could function at least. Second time, I took the same dosage from a different batch- the effect was similar but much milder. Apparently, there is difficulty in maintaining consistency/potency from one batch to another. I was intrigued by the experience and I have plenty SD left but oddly, I have no desire to repeat the experience any time soon. If you do decide to try it, I recommend that you approach it as an aid to meditation. Don't try to walk (you may fall), stay away from knives, balconies, noise, other people and TV sets. I was glad to try it, even if I don't see me repeating it any time soon. Incidentally, people have reported positive results using SD with the terminally ill in reducing anxiety about death. Even though, I have little anxiety about my own mortality (probably as a result of other similar experiences in my youth- thanks Mr. Natural!) I did feel reassured on that point again as a result of my recent SD experience. YMMV

Heh, I hope you're a better piano player than you are a describer, 'cause that sounds exactly the way I feel during a severe migraine.
-
Well if you could package it as "Tum's Olde Fashioned Migraine Extract 10x" you'd be rich by now!
-
I'd need an ad jingle... any composers in the room?

Stop, drop, Brain whizzz. TUM's Olde fashioned Migraine Extractseses!

Salvia on Schedule: Scheduling the mind-altering herb as a controlled substance could slow medical research
