Subterranea Britannica,
an awesome gallery of underground and cold war structures throughout the UK. Visit abandoned Tube stops, a failed Channel tunnel attempt in 1880, air raid shelters big and small, a sulphur mine. There's even East German sites, Maginot line forts, and more.

Thanks rolypolyman, I've been poking around looking at old tube stations, found this cool looking mercury vapour rectifier still in use.

beeza, cool link. That Mercury Arc Rectifier is a trip! Very cool post, rolypolyman!!

Too weird! The Belsize Park Deep-Level Air Raid Shelter? The Southern entrance at Downside Crescent and Haverstock Hill? I dreamed about that place years ago. Looking at the diagram of it, it's like I remember being there! And -- I've never been to England! Oh man, this is freaking me out! Great link, though, rolypolyman, thanks! Or was it just in some old Hitchcock movie I saw years ago? Hmmm...:::scratches armpit:::

I was reading this over #2's shoulder earlier. Very cool. I just need time to go back and read it all myself. First thing I said was that they should make more zombie movies in those places.

I looked through and didn't see anything about Dover Castle's tunnels. That's pretty interesting; they have a section of the tunnel network set up as it was in the days of the Dunkirk retreat. They had some kind of aroma generator, so in the hospital part you smelled disinfectant, and in the mess hall you smelled roast beef, etc.

A very cool link; I'll have to bookmark it for when I have time to explore it further. Me, I want something like that East German bunker myself, but I want it here. Will somebody send me a WINNING Powerball ticket?
