Artie Shaw Dies at 94.
"One of the giants of swing era jazz and a crusty, self-declared perfectionist, Shaw put down the clarinet in 1954 and never played it again, saying he could not reach the level of artistry he desired."
The man could play the clarinet like nobody's business. Give Frenesi a spin on New Year's Eve. Another person I'll be raising a glass to...

I think we are to God, if there is such a thing, like a microscopic cell in the left toenail of Gary Kasparov in the middle of a chess match. That cell has as much awareness of what Kasparov's doing as we do of God's activities. We like to presume we know about the universe, but we don't know what we're talking about. We have finite minds, and we're dealing with something called infinity. The most one can hope for is to live a good life and try to leave things a little better than you found them. Artie knew how to live.

Mr. Shaw requested the following epitaph: Go away.

Artie Shaw at ninety-four No Artie, No More. RIP

Vladimir Kramnik's toenail cells are jealous.

Maybe, but he can destroy a Ruy Lopez like nobodys business
