Happy Frank Zappa's Birthday
- All this talk of Zappa reminded me, he was born this day in 1940.
Happa Zappa Day. Tis the season to be jello.
-
I got him a pair of zircon-encrusted tweezers.
-
Happy B-Day, Frank. We miss you down here, but don't come back. The place is changed and you wouldn't like it much, I'm afraid.
-
Rocket knows his birthstones. Or he's made a reference to Frank's many strange lyrics (of which I'm largely ignorant), or both. The more I learn about him (Frank, not Rocket88), the more sad I am to have not been up-to-date on his artistic stuff. His political and religious views seem to match mine quite well. *raises a glass* Yesterday was Alan Parsons' birthday

Zircon encrusted tweezers are indeed a reference to lyrics, specifically, 'Montana', which is a very funny song. It's about a guy who wants to move to Montana "soon" to "raise a crop of dental floss". He dreams of riding around on a pygmy pony with his tweezers gleamin' in the moon-lighty light, among other things.

Gonna be a mental-toss-fly-coon...

Me and my circle of pranksters went to a Zappa show in KC, about 1971/72, and we had made a small(about six inch long) pickle car,on wheels with a little man driving it. We all worked our way up to the front and ,I think it was Paul,,,,anyhow , sent the little pickle mobile rolling towards Frank. He just looked down at it for a split second, really did`nt acknowledge it, and a roadie ran out and scooped it up. Always wondered what ever happened to the little man in the pickle.

I want to be dead.

I recognize the Montana dental floss song from song bites played by WXRT DJ Lin Brehmer here in Chicago. He must be a fan because I hear references every now and again. Unrelated ZappaFilter: His son (Zamed?) and Lisa Loeb had a really brief, but enjoyable cooking show on Food Network. I wish it had caught on - it was a nice mix of food pr0n and their music.

Ahmet.

Zircon-encrusted tweezers pop up in Montana, but they really make their presence felt (to me) in Dinah-Moe Humm. Be sure to sterilize them first, though. Here, give me your lighter.... These songs are thirty years old now. Brian Eno's Here Come The Warm Jets is, too. Time to pull out the vinyl.
-
The strangeness of it all: born three days later and he might've been Noel Zappa.

Hmmm.

Oh, I love you, islander. I really mean that. Directly from my heart to you. I'm going to devour these tonite with a beer or two, & a lovely Big Salad. Probly become a bit teary eyed, no doubt. My favorite era of his work; a great band line-up. Fantastic stuff. /bow

Then that means it's my birthday too! I've always felt honored to share a birthday with Uncle Frank. Nasty poodles and all. Hope that's not what I get...
-
Frank, we miss you, we need you...send help!
-
The Wikipedia entry is excellent reading, BTW. Thanks, Nostrildamus.

I laughed. "You've got to be kidding," I said. "You didn't like it?" he said, seeming genuinely wounded. "I can play another song." FZ on the Steve Allen show, playing/conducting bicycles. YouTube videos, all linked a la Bleu
