Joe Rashid: 95 year old violin maker, considered by some to make violins comparable to those of Antonio Stradivari. Something about this story make me very happy.
  • ))) Good man. Glad to know that we still have true craftsmen around nowadays.
  • This is a nice portrayal of the value of craft. I like how he does not want to connect the violins to money but what will happen to his collection after he passes away? Hopefully some sort of organization will continue to care for the instruments in the manner that Rashid does. Also does he mentor any sort of apprentices so that the skill of violin makers can continue? Thanks for the post.
  • It's nice to see that good people end up fulfilled at least occasionally.
  • Great story. Thanks for sharing.
  • Excellent

  • Thanks. (if it means more coming from a Canadian violinist)
  • Great story. Although I deeply respect his reasons for not doing it, too bad he won't sell. The value of his instruments will skyrocket upon the unfortunate event of his death. I met Peresson shortly before his death and even though I don't really play,I have kicked myself that I didn't buy one of his instruments at the time. They were pretty good for a modern violin and back then they went for $10K. Now they start at around $30K. One could make a worse investment these days.
  • I want one! This is a great post!! Did anyone ever see "The Red Violin"? Great movie about the history of a particular violin through the ages.
