Subversive coss stitch
  • NSFW, by the way
  • Very fond of this. My flatmate used to run sewkits.co.uk (no longer trading, sadly), whose products included the Cable Knit Penis and the Make Your Own Damn Christmas Card range...
  • are you all working for the old graham norton? *pulls out floss for "stitching"*
  • I love this stuff. So many friends who would love it too. Best get busy... And don't forget to meet the mascot.
  • I couldnt' resist. I bought the "whatever" one. I know how to needlepoint, but not cross-stitch. Does anyone know how to do both, and can you offer pointers? I'm assuming the cross-over can't be too difficult (my mom needlepoints and embroiders, so I'm hoping she can help, too.).
  • Cross-stitch is really easy, especially cross-stitch from a kit. It's the needlecraft version of painting by numbers. In fact, it's basically a combination of paiting by numbers and join the dots, but with a needle and thread. It's cool.
  • Yea, flashboy's right, it's easy. I would say the counting is the trickiest bit, when I used to do cross stitch as a kid I would always skip a box someplace.
  • My wife is an absolutely ace cross-sticher. We have stuff at home she's done that measures metres x metres. This is also a double post, but I can't remember who stuck it up. Dizzy? Martin Luther?
  • And I acn't spell "stitchhh" on this fuckwn Chuneer computre.
  • I've done a little of what I think was needlepoint - that's more freeform, isn't it? Cross-stitch is exactly what it says: little "x" stitches. Forever. It's on a grid, so it's pretty straightforward - can be tiny, and switch colors constantly, but the actual stitches are easy as can be. I tend to screw up the counting in cross-stitching, but my sister does it all the time. (She's stitching the Eye of Sauron right now, from a homemade pattern. It's rad.) If you've done needlepoint, it shouldn't be a problem, at least technically. It's just the counting/keeping track that tends to be a problem. See, I like this site because I like crafts being adapted for new generations. Knitting caught on like wildfire; why not this? It's a craft, a technique, and there's no rule that says that a technique has to be used for staid samplers or pictures of cute kittens. Although this site does play off that assumption, I like that it stretches what people expect from the craft. It's fun.
  • Hey Wurwuif, how about posting a picture of the Eye when your sister is done? I have to see Cross-Stitch Sauron.
  • Is he anything like Punch-Card Jesus?
  • I can't remember who stuck it up Every year we immolate our database, and every year it returns, ever virgin. Our very own death of Adonis. Hope the baby-snatchin's going well.
  • I've been doing the same cross-stitch now for almost two years. It has four almost-the-same shades of green, five of brown, and a couple of greys. It's supposed to be my son's birth-name-date-wossit, and he's two in January.
  • i'm sure his wossit is quite cute, mbashi. wossit all about, anyway?
  • I'm trying to convince her to scan it when it's done; if she does I'll see what I can do. Hm, or actually make a legitimate post about crazy-interesting fan things instead of/in addition to that. Effort? Bah.
