Bingo Gazingo "He looks like your grandfather; he thinks like your horny 13-year-old brother." Bingo Gazingo is a downtown New York staple for outsider music types- a frail old man who rocks the mic with scatological rhyming poetry about modern pop culture. I'm not sure if he's all that great, but he is the only musician to have a solo CD released by The Most Amazing Radio Station Ever, WFMU (motto: "Our music doesn't fall through the cracks, it is the cracks."). So I dug up some multimedia for all to share: [more inzingo]
  • Bingo Gazingo raps "You're Out of the Computer" with My Robot Friend, part of an hour-long radio program on CKUT, in Montreal. Unfortunately, this means you have to skip to about minute 26 to hear some Bingo Gazingo. (more from My Robot Friend- Why Won't You Call Me Back?) Here's video (warning: quicktime!) of Bingo performing, hosted by the Bindlestiff Cirkus. The audio's pretty crappy, so I don't really know what he's talking about, except that it seems to be a take on the whole Frankenstein thing. If you like Wesley Willis or Daniel Johnson, you should like Bingo instead. He kicks them up and down the street.
  • How about if you like Shooby Taylor...? Sweet post. Outsider music rocks, awkwardly. I shall savour.
  • I love that My Robot Friend song. I thought it was him doing the lyrics, and it was awesome then. It's way more awesome knowing it's some crazy old man. Did they work on it together, or did MRF sample/mash/mix/(whatever it's called today) a song off of Bingo Gazingo's CD? I really liked most of that hour of music you linked to. I wish it didn't cutoff before the dj said who did those last couple of songs.
  • Mr. Knickerbocker: I dug up the playlist from the site where I found the show that include the Bingo Gazingo/MRF collaboration. trouble funk . drop da bomb . hey fellas . sugarhill revelons . anthology . the way (you touch my hand) . sepia tone brian eno . before and after science . backwater bruce haack . the electric lucifer book part 1 . requiem doctor mix & the remix . wall of noise . out of the question bingo gazingo & my robot friend . songs in the key of z vol. 2 . you are out of the computer unireverse . plays the music of quebec and other distant planets . gens du pays ii . self bruce haack . the electric lucifer book part 2 . stand up lazaras ex-girl . endangeres species . pujeva . alternative tentacles blackstrobe . chemical sweet girl ep . the abwehr disco paulette & tanya winley . party keller vol. 1 . rhymin’ & rappin’ . compost
  • I enjoyed the piece of music so much that I took the liberty of editing Bingo Gazingo's 'out of the computer' from that section of music, and making it into a slightly tweaked MP3 file here - it's zipped - please right click & 'save target as'. It will be available from that link for a short time. I don't anticipate a lot of downloads, but somebody else please mirror it, because I don't have a lot of bandwidth anyway, and will eventually remove it. Any complaints about sound quality and/or distortion: don't blame me: it's from radio & therefore compressed like fuck. For the same reason, it's not the greatest quality. I tweaked it a bit, so don't mutilate it with the EQ boosting, & it should sound ok.
  • Thanks jimbecile. I had thought there was a half hour or so missing from the show, but now I think the dj said 15 minutes left, not 50. I think many of the songs will be difficult to find, but maybe not. Nostril, I don't know how to break this to you gently, so I won't be gentle: QUIT WASTING YOUR BANDWIDTH! If you want to extract something, you could extract some mp3s out of their videos here or here
