Delerious George...songs that make it summer
...making a cd for a bar my friends run. So, I need song titles that make you think it's summer, no matter what's going on outside the window, and your ass make like two two bobcats in a sack.
Butt-shaking sunshine music! Yaaaay! Cheese is fine! Dirrrrty's good!
So far, from my stash, I got;
Elephant Man - "Jook Gal"
Crazy Town - "Butterfly"
Skee-Lo - "The Burger Song"
Len - "Steal My Sunshine"
Pittbull with Lil Jon -"Culo"
but I want to mix it up a bit, so whatever ass-shake-style, sun-style you got, whatever genre, bring it on...
-
"Walkin' On Sunshine" baby, "Walkin' On Sunshine." Never fails to perk me up. Pure cheeeeeeeeeese. Unbridled happiness.
-
Stayin' Out for the Summer - Dodgy
-
Jane Says by Jane's Addiction is summer to me. The first day of summer, well okay the first day it hits 50, my windows are down, I'm drinking ice coffee and listening to Nothing Shocking. Damn, hate to think that day is months from now.
-
Just about anything by Maddness. Old school but booty-friendly. Or some Bob Marley. Ah, that Len song brings some great memories... *sigh*
-
Weezer - Island in the Sun Pure cheese.
-
mct beat me to it.
-
Here Comes the Summer by the Undertones. these are the guys that john peel (may he rest in peace, or at least in pop) thought made the best pop single ever (teenage kicks). lyrics to here comes the summer. oh and "walking on the beaches, looking at the peaches..." and "i know that i'll be back at echo beach some day..." okay, i have an unfortunate confabulation of summer and beaches. mail me if you want to hear "here comes the summer".
-
Hmmm... Beach Boys? Any surfer-dude music, I guess. And if you're going to go there, you may as well go down "Margaritaville" way.
-
Roy Ayers "everybody loves the sunshine" - nice and mellow. "listen to the title track"
-
"she's got the jack" ac/dc I only hear that song coming out of cars on hot days.
-
"Brown Eyed Girl" - Van Morrison "I Can See Clearly Now" - Holly Cole "She Wore An Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini" - ?
-
Dudes...just realising what a cool and bizarre summer song War's "Spill the Wine" is...also Shangri-la's "Remember (walking in the sand)"...waiting on a shitload of downloads right now, YARRRR!!! Ozomatli's "Chango"; ass-shaking cumbia con muchos gatos y changos ruidosos y much leaping about - I dedicate it to Monkeyfilter!

Sunshine in a bucket: The Undertones - "Here Comes The Summer" Belle & Sebastian - "Legal Man" Polyphonic Spree - "Light & Day", and... well, basically every Polyphonic Spree song. I'm wondering what sort of songs make it... well, "winter", besides X-mas songs. Guess I'll save that for another thread.
-
Walking on the Sun by SmashMouth will more than likely think of more as time go on but that one popped into my head immediately
-
Even hearing it in the 137th commercial, I'm still lovin' the Mungo Jerry. In the summertime when the weather is hot You can stretch right up and touch the sky When the weather's fine You got women, you got women on your mind Have a drink, have a drive* Go out and see what you can find *not an endorsement
-
Diesel Boy - Happy Street G. Love & special sauce - Take you there

-
Not really for booty-shaking... but rather, evoking the warm, summery summerness of summer: * Kool & The Gang - Summer Madness * Gershwin, from Porgy & Bess - Summertime * (Similarly...) Sublime/Pharcyde - Doin' Time * Some other shit worth sharing that i can't think of right now.

Anything 311 I always say, seeing as how driving on the beaches of the outer banks with my jeep's ragtop down looking for a surf break seems to be my summer, all whilst listening to 311. But one song in particular: "Down south". I love it!

-
If you want a song to cross that summer/winter divide, can I suggest "July, July!" by The Decemberists...? I love that song. Also, let me second "Summertime" by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. It is perhaps the only good and decent thing that has kept me from personally putting Will Smith out of our misery.

I cheated the summer content in favour of ass-shaking, then had to get in a few I hadn't been able to sneak flow-wise onto the last few CDs I've made for them. If'n you ever want to hear it, it's going to the Doghouse. Thanks again for the wicked suggestions. Yay!
-
thanks for the encouragement! I'm having to deal with a foot of snow and dark weather tomorrow. I will get out of bed, but I won't drive!
