Corey Feldman is back! And he's bigger than ever!
  • Ouch. That was embarrasing. My colleagues got a good laugh though.
  • Hello! Some of us are at work here! Will have to remember to check that out when I get home....
  • Hmm.. NSFW... Hmm...
  • What the hell was that? Am I the only person who got sucked into a never-ending popup vortex of goatse proportions?
  • [ ] Big [ ] Clever [ ] Funny [ ] None of the above
  • Yeah... you guys really don't want to click that link. Not cool.
  • It's a damn good thing I wasn't at work, angry modem. As it is, you're officially on my no-click list.
  • Seriously! NSFW; Is there a coalition of unemployed Monkeys trying to bollocks-up our careers? Please try and give us all a little warning... ie NSFW, Flash, "Hey everybody, I'm looking at gay porn" loud audio. Thanks.
  • DANGER! Ok, whose turn is it to wake tracicle up and Eek! this?
  • As it is, you're officially on my no-click list. I've always wanted an "ignore list" feature on that other place, but I've just started wanting one here.
  • Well, I'm damn glad my crappy net appliance didn't have a chance to load it before I read this page.
  • Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Not safe for work, not safe for anywhere. Happily no one was walking by my window and (presumably) my volume was set on mute.
  • If this was intentional, the user should be banned. It's on the same level as spamming.
  • And to think, I stopped looking at gay porn to click this link.
  • Incredibly rude. Fuck you, angry modem, and if I get a visit from IT here at work, I'm going to hunt you down. Asshole.
  • WHAT.THE.FUCK.
  • So how does one get a link removed here? Is email really the fastest option? I know craigslist has a 'community report' feature that takes like 10 complaints and then removes a post for review...
  • I looked up Angry Modem from Mefi to see if it's the same person and something has been hacked. Hopefully the FPP is just a symptom of that.
  • I posted on Tracy's blog. She'll get to it when she wakes up and has a chance to look at it.
  • So I clicked on the link, because I'm a nice monkey and I like to see what new users post, even if it looks dumb. I just got back from massive force quits and rebooting. FUCK OFF, angry modem. Fuck off and die. And if you weren't such a fucking coward to not put any contact info here or at MeFi (where I'm thinking of reporting you for having a hijacked/redirected page that hints of more of the same rather than user info) I would tell you this personally. As it is, I doubt you'll be back here, but once more to make me feel better - GO FUCK YOURSELF. Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, we try to be nice monkeys over here, and look what we get. Asshole.
  • Maybe a monkey should put up a post after this warning people in the meantime?
  • I second goofyfoot's sentiments. Angry modem, you suck.
  • Any takers on shawnj's suggestion? I'll do it if no one else has.
  • Hey, go ahead. Risk the double post, no one will be upset.
  • Please do Minda.
  • Done.
  • Promptly saved by the Smartfilter firewall (may they rot in hell, otherwise... those bastards have all web-based language translators banned as 'sexual content' (?!), and all our pleas to the IT guys have so far been ignored). I usually look at the url that appears on the bottom on the browser as the pointer hovers a link before clicking it, anyway; of course, NSFW warning is to be expected from any poster with at least a couple working neurons. Trolls, well, that's another matter... /Actually, more ashamed that I hurried to click blindly on some Corey Hart link... sheeeez...
  • Hehe! Done, done, and done again! :o)
  • Great minds think alike. Didn't even see the request here, oops. Well, I clicked on the link to be nice. Because that's what we do here, we're nice and we check each other's links out.
  • Guys, I dunno but angry modem on MeFi seemed pretty cool - I really don't think this poster is he/she/it. Let the bile flow for whomever this is, but I don't think its the blue guy.
  • Name: lol User type: Default User ID: 713 User since: March 04, 2004 I've seen him commenting before in Mofi. Funny, I dun recall that "lol" was there before. Think he's been hacked on both *filters.
  • just to echo petebest and others - let's see what's happening before we castigate angry_modem - I don't think he/she'd do this...
  • Bah! Now we don't have anyone to vilify! But, for what it's worth, I think you guys are right, and would like to extend my apologies to the real angry modem, as well as my sympathies. Dammit.
  • BWWWWAAAAA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!
  • angry modem's account is on hold, I've changed the link above so no one can click on it accidentally, and moved this to the DP category.
  • Ah, probably right. I'll just shift the venom in my previous post to whoever thought it would be funny to this. That person can fuck off and die. We're too nice for our own good. ;)
  • perhaps corey feldman has taken over angry modem
  • And to be fair to corey, here is the link to his real website http://www.coreyfeldman.com
  • What do you expect from a Corey Feldman link?
  • Whatever happened to Corey Haim?
  • coke and hookers. Duh!
  • Man I am so hoping corey reprises his role of Edgar Frog from lost boys, maybe a one man show or something.
  • Angry Modem's user page on Metafilter has been hacked as well. It's been reported.
  • from #mefi so what, angry's box has been hacked or an account at monkey/mefi? this is hilarious... people think you didn't do it :) no. I posted lastmeasure. |<-- papercake has left irc.turlyming.com () it was all me. and I don't regret it a bit.
  • "I AM LOOKING AT GAY PORNO!" how the hell did that website know what I was looking at? Does it scan open windows or something?
  • I saw Corey Feldman at the midnight showing of the Goonies in LA earlier this year. He was an hour late and came with an entourage. Good times.
  • Heh, Kimberly, that's awesome.
  • I live a couple of hours down the I-35 from angry modem. Should I open a Pay Pal account to finance a trip to let the air out of his tires? (I told him on IRC I wouldn't, but apparently I seem to have been lying.)
  • Force him to watch the complete Corey Feldman Film Library. He will behave after that.
  • is there any way to know if it's angry modem or a hacker? i mean, know for sure? this is icky.
  • Is there really anyway to truly know anything?
  • This is getting progressively more suspicious: coreyfeldman.info is registered to Derek Arnold of Blacksburg, VA. So far this checks out, as angrymodem's userpage on Mefi identifies him as Derek Arnold. So far, it looks like it checks out that it may NOT be a hijack. I just IMed him, and this is the conversation (from AIM): a285714: what's the deal with monkeyfilter? Derek 128KB: I hear it's a website a285714: so i can get the info straight from the horse's mouth, was that you that posted the coreyfeldman.info link? Derek 128KB: yes Derek 128KB: no hacking a285714: not sure i understand why, but that's your prerogative. I then logged off.
  • *ponders* we need some hash to think about this.
  • Or we could go on with our lives. Who's with me?
  • Yup. I think moving on is the way to go.
  • I am. "It's the internet Jake"
  • Wow. Okay then. thanks chimaera. Bummer. *shrug*
  • not me. i am convinced THIS is who we're dealing with... does this headline look familiar? HMMM??? cockpunch anyone??? HEADLINE: Toilet punch BODY: A family day out at a bingo hall ended with an Exeter man being punched in the face in a pub toilet, a court heard. The blow pierced a hole through Dennis Strudwick's lip and resulted him being taken to the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital for treatment, Exeter Crown Court was told yesterday. ***Derek Arnold, 33, of Windermere Close, Exwick,*** denies assault causing actual bodily harm, claiming the injury was caused as he tried to protect himself from Mr Strudwick. Prosecutor, Malcolm Galloway, said Mr Strudwick had been to Mecca Bingo in Exeter and by the time he got to the Sawyer's Pub in Cowick Street he had drank about 10 pints. The trial continues. ah-HA. i rest my case.
  • It is Friday Night. Just go to the pub. I mean, I know that's my answer to everything, but...
  • Okay, that comment seems a little weird coming after SideDish's post. Hey ho. To beer!
  • Yeah, last one out please get the lights. flashboy, first round's on you ;)
  • Beer? Is there nothing it can't do?
  • Hey, what does LGF think about all this? Links? ... Too soon to joke about that?
  • Damnit, it's not Friday night for everyone, it's only 3:15pm here. If I get drunk now, it's going to look awfully bad. Especially since I'm in the library at school. And have no liquor. ;)
  • Derek Arnold's Resume. Phone number same area code as on the register.com whois.
  • that one was for all of us at work who just might have free long distance calling. goofyfoot?
  • oh no! i refuse to believe a fellow midwesterner would do something so vile.
  • No, no, no, no, no. We just vilified LGF for posting Jerry's personal info, and using tracicle's personal info to call her. No no no. If you want to email to ask what's up (I'm just going to wait for someone else to find out) that's okay, but please, please don't go calling, and please don't post personal info on the website again. It's so, déclassé.
  • No. Not with the getting all LGF on people's asses, people. Tsh tsh. For those not free from Evil Mistress Work yet, here is a thought to keep you going for the next few hours.
  • Now that's a thought I can get behind. In eight hours I'll be in my parents' house with a glass of scotch.
  • You're totally right, livii and flashboy. My apologies. tracicle, please delete the link above.
  • (she's already deleted it)
  • Wow. I go away for two hours and etc etc etc.
  • I think bluesaint meant the link to the resume, which still looks active to me...
  • That's okay, bluesaint. Don't worry, we were just...a little anxious. ;) And thanks to flashboy's post, I'm calling it quits and heading home to work there, where I can have a beer. Yum. It is Friday, after all!
  • It looks like my strategy of surfing with every bell and whistle turned off has paid dividends.
  • not to add to this glowing stool sample, but I don't think that resume is the person in question. That is all.
  • So angry modem is this year's Cock. What's all this talk about beer? It's only a quarter to one in the afternoon, people! Sheesh.
  • (yeah wasn't the derek person in virginia? this guy's in iowa. he did, however, go to a mefi meetup, photos show)
  • For those of us who showed up after the link was disabled, would somebody summarize what this link did?
  • That assholery capped an otherwise extremely enjoyable day (for me) on MoFi. Mad props to all you peeps.
  • kwy: flash explains here
  • i linked to the resume because from the whois it took me to derekarnld.net and on that website his Aol IM user is the same as in one of the posted conversations. i'm not sure it's the same guy, but it looks like it to me.
  • He's over on MeTa bragging about it: http://metatalk.metafilter.com/mefi/8481
  • He's also been spotted bragging on #mefi.
  • We just vilified LGF for posting Jerry's personal info, and using tracicle's personal info to call her. I didn't hear they posted his personal info.
  • Been a fun week, hasn't it?
  • Yeah, he's being a smarmy little pudhuffer over there. I don't know why people relish revealing to the world what utter fucking twelve-year-old semiliterate morons they are. But then I shouldn't feed the troll.
  • pudhuffer?
  • They did. It's quite a way down the thread that was spawned after the event. See here: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=13607#c0138
  • That was to Knickers, by the way.
  • Cocksucker.
  • Bonesmoker.
  • Hey now, don't call me names.
  • Swordswallower. Taintmuncher. la fellatier.
  • Diqliquor. Peepeesmoocher. OK, I'm done.
  • Sockchoker.
  • Thank you for Taintmuncher and Sockchoker. *pulls out insult book, makes notes*
  • Thanks Skrik. I never followed the action from their site, only from over here. If no one brought it up here, I didn't find out.
  • Ah, the classics. I remember when this was done over at "The Site Which Shall Remain Nameless" to much anger and strife. We all learned our lesson that day -- ALWAYS READ THE COMMENTS BEFORE CLICKING THE LINK. (Of course, this presumes that the first person to comment is good about it and warns off everyone else)
  • Bonesmoker I beg your pardon?
  • Null Modem
  • hmm...bonesmoker... hmm.
  • this day should be an internet holiday
  • 8/1 changed everything. nevar forget.
  • I believe that the only appropriate response is to post the details of Angry Modem's life here, and imply that people should harass him with phone calls and instant messages, then beat him physically. Clearly that's the moral position.
  • God. Reading that shitsewer of a MetaTalk post about this thread only reminded my why I'd rather not be a member there. And to angry-because-my-mommy-didn't-love-me modem, good riddance to bad rubbish.
  • Derek Arnold of Mason City, Iowa, USA has made a lot of friends today. Good thing that nobody's hiring, isn't it?
  • Everyone who clicked the link should get one of these.
  • God. Reading that shitsewer of a MetaTalk post about this thread only reminded my why I'd rather not be a member there. It's funny that they closed their doors to specifically keep shit like that out, and now they're all defending that kind of shit. I'm in such a hurry to pay five bucks to join their community. not really
  • I think stavros has just summed it up best: "So this fuckoff backstabbing infantile trainwreck shithouse of a thread is the deliberate, self-parodizing counterpoint to the 'welcome to the new users' lovefest yesterday, right?"
  • I'm scared to click on homunculous's link.
  • I'm scared to click on homunculous's link. Bah. Piffle. It's homunculus. He always warns us when it's sketchy, unlike some people... *cough cough*
  • I've been checking properties before clicking all day today, and even then, haven't clicked on much. Am not sure it's an overreaction to say that getting whatever the fuck was in the original link (which via audio boomed out, and visually reproduced itself so fast I could barely tell what it was) reminded me of getting flashed on buses when I was a kid. The same feeling of oh-NO-what-did-I-do-wrong, and a guilty notion that I've become smeared by someone else's shit because I was stupid enough to (on the bus) take the bus, or (on the internet) click a link. Part of the gist over at the Metatalk thread is that no place is safe and it's foolish to expect any to be so. I agree it's foolish to expect any to be so. But it's a shock when a bus becomes a place for shitheads to show their dicks to children, and it's a shock when a username you recognize throws a shitbomb in your face and (in my case) causes sufficient havoc to your computer that a coworker hears it and rushes to help. Yeah, angry modem's slime wasn't directed at me personally, but neither was the exhibitionist's on the bus. I got slimed nonetheless. It's not funny and it's not forgiveable.
  • My wife tells me that a "Stephen Billing" just called our house via relay call. Hi Derek! Have a nice weekend, y'all.
  • LGF comment 138 didn't say anything outrageous, and I read as much as I could after that before getting bored. But, you know what, they really pretty much sounded like us or MeFi, from what I read, except for the conservative political stance. "We have seen the enemy, and they is us." Unless you can point me specifically to worse stuff there. I do hate their tendency to show off skills by getting access to tracicle's personal information, but, as others have pointed out, we've come pretty close ourselves - maybe even stepped over the same line. Just chill, folks. And, will we see angrymodem in a a new avatar? Could be. But if he shows up to trash us again, well, just shine it on. Pretty please.
  • In case anyone wonders, I'm u.n. owen on mefi. and evidently over there it's completely cool to call people newbs who've been there for 3 years, but if you say that someone's ridiculous redirect on a mefi user page and conduct on other sites probably makes them more of a liability than an asset, you set yourself up to be shit upon by the elite denizens of mefi. How sweet. Gosh, with members like that it's no wonder they've already cataloged the "best of the web" and have been able to move on to sheer newsfilter and anti-war threads.
  • Maybe it feels good to say we're better, but isn't it better to make that point by our actions? I think it would be nice if more people could look at MeFi, not as the big bad kid on the block we have to outdo all the time, or the jerk we feel we have to insult behind his back, but as the big brother we can compete with in a healthy way, who we can admire and, yeah, jab at every now and then. He sometimes makes mistakes, sure, maybe more than MoFi, but he's older, so not only has he had to grow through all this stuff before us, but he has his own set of issues. So maybe he deserves some slack. Or, if that doesn't work: it's getting a little old. The MeTa thread was, I thought, an interesting one. The question of whether a user should be banned for his or her actions on another site is a tough one. Is that really fair? On the other hand, modem's obviously a huge cock. Or maybe he isn't, and that's why he's an ass. Either way, I can't believe he received so little condemnation over there. The thread is a trainwreck for a bunch of reasons, but I thought the sniping at other users who aren't angry_modem was one of the more incredible ones. To think it all started as an attempt to warn people. Unbelievable.
  • I didn't mean to address that to anyone in particular, just sayin'.
  • *sigh* well that was one hell of a way to divide the two communities further. way to go!
  • Hell, let's just declare an open ended all out war on them. We'll force the likes of homunculus and wendell to choose sides, brother against brother, and then fight to the bitter death. Except it will all be staged in virtual reality, in the largest multi player game of asteriods ever to take place. The 2D game area would be roughly the size of 10 city blocks, with all 20k of MeFi's evil empirecitizens versus the few thousand of ours. Of course, us being the rebellion and all, we'd have to entirely rely on gorilla tactics.
  • Gorilla tactics? Like throwing dust?
  • I too read the initial MetaTalk as one of concern about angry modem, given the redirects on the user pages. I don't think anyone here would have brought it up in MeTa if we had known the truth, namely, that angry modem is a douchebag. As cathartic as it would be to keep bashing away at the issue in MetaTalk, and as entertaining as it would be to plot some sort of revenge (I came up with a particularly devious idea), I think it's in everyone's best interest if we (meaning Monkeyfilter posters) all just drop it, at least over on the other site. The Metafiltarians can continue to sputter and froth for a day, and it'll die down. This is kind of a lame situation... but it is just the internets.
  • the_bone is right. That MetaTalk thread is so pathetic and repellent I couldn't even bring myself to post in it. I guess the momentary infusion of niceness with the entry of the new members was just too much for MeFi to take. And calling somebody with a 4K user number a newbie: wtf? I just hope angry modem undergoes some life experience (hopefully not permanently crippling but long-lasting and painful) that forces him to grow up a bit. You know, like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. Did you see that movie? Very enjoyable, and I don't usually enjoy "romantic comedies." When he drives into the quarry with the groundhog at the wheel... Wait, what were we talking about?
  • We'll force the likes of homunculus and wendell to choose sides We'll just play the two sides against each other. Suckers.
  • That MetaTalk thread is so pathetic and repellent I couldn't even bring myself to post in it. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YOU GIRLIE-MEN HAVE THE VAPORS?!
  • I'm sorry quonsar, but you have been let go from the funny troll position. Nostrildamus is sharper and has better timing. You can reapply to be transfered to the inappropriately rude image coordinator, as soon as the inline image division is approved for development.
  • With that of course goes a moderate pay reduction, but any future promotion will coincide with an appropriate retroactive pay rise.
  • MoFi Wendell and MeFi Wendell: Two avatars enter, one avatar leaves! Then we can cruise around a post-apocalyptic wasteland with the winner in modified Holdens supplied by Wolof and the other Australian monkeys. Careful, quonsar. You might end up replaced by Kwantsar.
  • Nobody can replace quonsar. He has the fish.
  • See, this is why I made my own sandbox and I just bring my toys over to play on weekends. Just kidding.
  • MetaFilter is not a place where you can reasonably expect to avoid anuses. comedy gold indeed.
  • I find very shocking the concept that a user can do a horrible deed in one community without being sanctioned in another (very similar) community. Well, especially as a policy held up by a community that prides themselves on being liberal as hell. Jesus Christ, all of *filter-land professes to hate the closed-minded policies of a guy like President Bush -- then MetaFilter applies the same closed-minded, I-don't-care-what-happens-in-another-community policies to dealing with a situation like this. If there was ever proof that MetaFilter is as insular and sectarian as it's sometimes looked, this is it. MetaFilter: practice some foreign policy and do something about shit like this. You're becoming what you profess to hate.
  • I guess the difference is that they don't have to deal with us. But on the other hand, I didn't get the impression that many of the regular posters were the ones contributing. Seemed like a few onery rouges and quonsar. But it looks like this is the kind of tension that led to these events and these are the reactions modem meant to elicit. If you want a political parallel that shows how hypocritical some liberals can be, I couldn't think of a more striking one. But then again, it is the internet, its not like we're risking the destruction of Monkeyfilter or they Metafilter.
  • Well, so this is where all the people with common sense hang out.
  • Metafilter High School football RULES! Sorry. I'll stop now.
  • MetaFilter: practice some foreign policy and do something about shit like this. You're becoming what you profess to hate. posted by outrigger at 11:09PM UTC on November 20 I am George Bush and I approve this message!
  • MetaFilter: practice some foreign policy and do something about shit like this. You're becoming what you profess to hate. Isn't that a bit long for a tagline?
  • I just want to say, that's impressive work, managing to get a critique George Bush into this discussion. Very good work indeed. You have skillz. I'd like to see you work some Halliburton material into the anal massage thread, though. I'd consider that a challenge.
  • He's banned here, right? And since he doesn't shit in the Metafilter sandbox he can continue to post there, right? Seems fair to me. I'll avoid him as much as I'm able.
  • that's impressive work, managing to get a critique George Bush Just practicing my rhetoric, I guess. But I do like to look for the connection between professed ideologies and how they're practiced. MF's dominant ideology is worn like a Hawaiian shirt, so it's interesting to note that one opportunity to practice the concept that "your backyard is my backyard" --between two communities who obviously do have some relationship -- is not acted upon (by giving the offender a "time-out" on MF or something). Truthfully, maybe they don't have a relationship. In which case... just practicing my rhetoric, I guess...
  • MetaFilter: Isn't that a bit long for a tagline? & flashboy: I think you have me mistaken for somebody that writes a message about politics more than twice a year.. Halliburton... city in Ontario?... hmmmm...
  • Just kidding, outrigger. Anyway, Wolof obliged with the Halliburton comment, so you're off the hook. :-) Counter rhetoric practice: couldn't that approach be characterised as falling in line with liberal/progressive trends such as moral relativism and self-determination? Banning someone for what they do elsewhere... the concept of (virtual) extraterritorial sanctions... like an internet version of the Helms-Burton law...? Hmmm. Maybe I need more practice.
  • MoFi Wendell and MeFi Wendell: Two avatars enter, one avatar leaves! And the loser goes up against NerdFi Wendell. So many Filters, so little time. I think I made myself clear in the MetaTalk thread: *nudges quonsar into the shitfountain* posted by wendell at 8:18 PM PST on November 19 They should be here because they like MetaFilter. • For a second there, wendy, I had a horrible feeling you'd posted the entire text of that MeTa thread into this one...
  • You don't mind if I call you wendy, by the way? I also have a dress I'd like you to try on.
  • I killed a man once, you know.
  • and hid his body in the deep, dark peat.

  • I'm glad to see what languagehat wrote here, but I would have liked him to write it over there. I totally disagree that it's illiberal to fail to sanction someone for what they do elsewhere...it seems to me to be the opposite. So, should Matt check criminal histories, interview old girlfriends, what? The idea of worrying about what a user does elsewhere is problematic for many reasons, but I think that in general it's illiberal because one is implicitly asserting that the local standards are universal. On the other hand, I felt there was a decent argument about sanctioning angry_modem in some fashion because his post here and his presence on MeFi are not unrelated. Essentially, he was trolling MoFi as a MeFite. That reflects badly on the MeFi community. Banning him would be extreme, but if I were Matt, I'd have said, "Troll elsewhere and be an ass all you want--just don't do it angry_modem, the MeFi user". I mean, okay, maybe he uses that name elsewhere. But it wasn't an accident that he came and trolled here. He clearly did it in response to all the talk about MoFi over on MeFi. So, there is a connection. But it's certainly not like he did it there and not here. Tracicle banned him. That's how it works. But I was really dismayed by people defending him. And I have occasionally thought that quonsar plays the clown or, er, God help me for saying this, the gadfly and is worth something in that respect; but angry_modem just mostly seems to be a prick. But he's been a prick to me, so I'm biased. But I'm definitely in the crowd that finds people being pricks to other people not funny. I wanted to say to angry_modem, sir, you are no Andy Kaufman. If you're really, really freakin good at it, then it's a form of art. Otherwise, though, it's like just being a twelve year old boy. And the newbie bashing was really disturbing, too. I especially hated it because I'm real excited about all the newbies at MeFi. It's so cool to see all these new names. And, gasp, a lot of them (partly because they're monkeys) are determined to be exactly the opposite sort of person angry_modem is. But, um, there were some of us there that hadn't just joined that were very scornful of angry_modem. So, don't be mad at all the mefites. Some of them are us. :)
  • Well done Flashboy and Wolof; I'll have to pick those up right after I finish What's the Matter with the Fens? How Conservatives Won Anal Massage in the Heart of the Fenlands
  • And the newbie bashing was really disturbing, too. Only a newbie would say that. Newbie.
  • Smo, don't be such a Fen.
  • Yeah, and over here anyway, I've got a two-digit id. Neener, neener. But I'm a newbie 17Ker on MeFi. :)
  • >>I just got back from massive force quits and rebooting. that's what bothers me the most. i can't believe one monkey would do that to another. that just sucks.
  • I'm glad to see what languagehat wrote here, but I would have liked him to write it over there You mean about quonsar and the fish, right? I agree that banning angry_modem there for his actions here would be illiberal. If you start banning people who show any symptoms of assholery anywhere, why... I'll be the only MeFite left! *reels from blow from Alnedra's hammer* I mean... mathowie will be the only MeFite left!
  • aww... sorry, I didn't mean to hit you, languagehat. But it's a bit hard to get quonsar when he keeps popping in and out like that.
  • New Flash Game: Whack-a-Troll, with Alnedra's hammer! And don't call me Wendy, Flashy... or is that Shirley? Because Mr. Wendy is an unemployed unofficial spokescritter for a place that sells square hamburgers. My apologies for the cut-and-paste job; it seemed like a good idea while I was under the influence of NyQuil. If anybody really wants to get the true essence of MeFiWendell, go here. Also available in languagehat, homunculus and quonsar flavors.
  • So, should Matt check criminal histories, interview old girlfriends, what? My thoughts exactly. Well said, kmellis.
  • how does gene filter work?
  • Oh dear. Clicking on wendell's languagehat link, my rehashed version began: Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. And went on to add that "... diarrhea is merely to reveal your own adjective..." I don't like the sound of any of that.
  • When I checked quonsar's, it included this bit of blank verse: "because i do business with a pot of tea and my early morning laudanum perhaps the author's recall was enfeebled a bit. early morning laudanum perhaps the author's recall was enfeebled a bit. early morning laudanum perhaps the author's recall was enfeebled a bit. early morning laudanum implies mid morning, brunch, and other things beginning with B, like being banned and growing bald"
  • You make your bed, you sleep in it. Or someone else makes it, short sheets it, and you have those iraqis dancing in the other hand. I am the vulture on the black market. What, no Scientology? Nothing on the brink either of all-out anarchy or civil war? Instead of a failed attempt to disable US orbital defences. It's easy to attack satellites - basically you put gravel into orbit. A multitude of small, untrackable objects would hit existing satellites and spent boosters, destroying them with more Poo! Hee hee! I am wise.
  • It's better than MegaHAL.
  • It sometimes amazes me, all the goddamn time.
    Yeah, me too, Stavros.
  • These are all great. I've spent far too much time over the past two days just hitting refresh. However, it must be said, great as these are, GeneFilter was only ever truly intended for one user....
[N.B. Rewritten and wired for my silly tantrum. Although I take your point about nationalism (did languagehat help you find that every new shampoo - apart from a rich set of links, nicely disposed and conducive to appreciation. On Arnie's first day on the other hand, I sometimes think they're more beautiful than even (the old) dollar notes. Echoing mediareport: great post, Karl. Polyani is always ruined by customers - mean, over-familiar, chatty, demanding - never by bartenders. I identify with them. Being Portuguese, I have to watch COPS and the more OK it is, doubly so. After all, they were against. Turns out, on closer examination, they're all from a great idea, though I agree with mitchel: the best of them, I have to be macrobiotic was to lose the honey, go light on the cob. Amberglow, you lucky so-and-so! It may not be kosher but, whatever you call that savory concoction of meat, grease, and fire - is strictly hedonistic, rather than merely a sentiment. Hell, I wrote my Ph.D thesis on Saudade in Portuguese political philosophy and still can't define it. ;) Listening to this bazaar! WOW! [This is an excellent and original post, homunculus. I...
    Poetry.
  • Really? Wow! MiguelCardosa was my first MeFi crush. It stikes we as appropriate that this wonderful flibertygibbet was developed in his honor.
  • That's the royal we, of course.
  • path, flashboy was not talking about the history of the device about about poetic appropriateness, just as you might say the electric guitar was only ever truly intended for Keith Richard(s). (Or, depending on your taste, Eric Clapton.)
  • Free kick at the hat available re the above comment. Take it at your own risk. *misses PF, who is no doubt doing PF stuff*
  • Or then, according to kmellis's MeFi alter-ego: These days, there are no cultural signs that they're having any success at convincing the rest of us back here in reality. If it has a particular example of royal flush, meaning that every particular poker hand is more self-critical of its validity, not its truth nor its acceptability nor whether it should be imposed upon unbelievers is absurd on its face. You can see how I think that nature can be outlawed, right? Gay sex is a hoax because offhand I can imagine is what the Bible dictates. But, you know, because I see Matteo doing that. Of course, an actual Humvee would be greater. Beautiful. Brings a tear to the eye. Or something.
  • You mean EB is now part of the database? *runs off excitedly to try* ...Hey, I got a blank page, just like before, dammit! How'd you do that?
  • Never mind, I found it in the MeTa thread -- you put a hyphen between Etherial and Bligh. Now I'm content.
  • Really? Wow! MiguelCardosa was my first MeFi crush. I better get to steppin. I'm one of those girls with glasses so briefly prized, and haven't even targeted my, uh, target, thereon! Do I have to declare a crush right now, or can I wait until next tax quarter?
  • Pick me, pick me!
  • Heyyy sailor - nice glasses! Grrrrr! ;)
  • I'm not a sailor, I'm a frog.
  • By the way, here at monkeyfilter, we're all about the personal attacks. In case you hadn't noticed.
  • *sighs* Yes, I saw it. How about we not give him the attention he so desperately craves?
  • Corey Feldman is back! And he's bigger than ever been subpoenaed in the Michael Jackson case!
