Metafilter has turned on signups for new users.
At least as of 7:19 EST the new user link was turned on at MetaFilter, Matt is asking for a $5 donation to sign up.
I thought this was worth a FPP for MoFi users, but if the powers that be here at MonkeyFilter consider this inappropriate, please feel free to delete it.
-
$5 bucks to be part of that shit-storm? Why, they should pay *me* $5 bucks to lift the standards of posts over there, & the rest of us monkeys too, for that matter. 5 bucks indeed. Pffft. Fuckin' insult. Wankers.
-
Due to the bursting size of the community, its use of resources, and the cost of running the servers, all new users have a one-time $5 charge, to help defray these costs. I thought that's what the ads were for. So new users won't have ads on the page when they're logged in, since they've already done their part to contribute with their "donation", right?
-
I went ahead and did it... I've wanted a MeFi account for a while. That being said, I'm still going to primarily (and possibly exclusively) participate here. Sorry if that disappoints anyone! ;) It'll be interesting to see how this affects the dynamics of our monkey fiefdom. My predictions: new user signups will slow down somewhat, posting here will slow and then rise again as the more community-oriented MoFites try out MeFi and subsequently return, and MoFi's general tone of civility will continue.
-
It's almost like a foster parent who decides to turn their disorderly house into an amusement park. Mr. Owie has either given up hope or he hopes he'll create such a cacophony no one will be able to remember who they hate anymore.
-
I'll stay where I am, thanks...
-
I joined because primarily because of the Ask Metafilter section. All my FPPs and double posts will be restricted to here. Consider yourselves lucky.
-
Well, I've jumped ship - goodbye, losers! Don't feel sad that I've gone and joined the cool, beautiful people: feel sad because you're all such ugly, geeky little freaks and you smell of wee-wee. Oh, and if I ever see you in the corridor don't be surprised if I give you a wedgie. I've got a COOL BOYFRIEND now. You just have your math extra credit classes and bad dress sense. WHATEVER!
-
*takes quid's lunch money*
-
Pff. snarkifilter can keep their signups.
-
I'm waiting for someone to buy me a signup because I ROCK!! *clears throat* *cough* ...still waiting... *begins to fidget* *wets self*
-
I'm waiting for someone to buy me a signup because I ROCK!! rather buy you a roll of reynolds wrap :)
-
I lurk at metafilter daily, and I joined today. Why? To make a comment if I feel the need, just the other day I wanted to make a comment on one of their threads, and not being a member, I couldn't. This is a rare situation, me wanting to comment on their threads, but it does happen. Now if that situation happens again I can make a comment. Granted there is much snarkiness there, but perhaps with some new users things will not be so snarky. Or perhaps there will be increased snarkiness. That being said, Monkeyfilter is my home. It is where all the fun is. Monkeybashi rules and all my monkey brothers and sisters I love. Even the snarky ones. :-)
-
Ditto what bratcat said. Bought mine today, too.
-
Fuck Christmas!
-
5 bucks indeed. Pffft. Fuckin' insult. Wankers. Ahh Nosey - when are the T-shirts going to be ready? As for MeFi - I wouldn't join if you paid me! *looks left, looks right, runs away*
-
I snuck in when signups were briefly open in April, though really, I usually stick to AskMe (where I can occasionally be helpful). The hardheaded political wanking (left, right, and other) in the blue really irks me. That's not to say I don't take a pot-shot every now and again.
-
I'm a MeFi fanboy. I'm in. That said, I feel very comfy here and will always hail my MoFi overlords first. fangirl, really
-
Thanks for the tip, but I think I'll stay on this side of the street.
-
Ah, but what will pete_best do? ;) I have to say that I really don't understand the MeFi hate. I got a membership there in April when the signups were on for those two days, and I like having a login there. I post occasionally, find lots of good things to read there, and I love the green. That said, I find MoFi friendlier and I feel like I'm a member of a community here, unlike over there. So they both have their charms and if I hadn't been lucky enough to get a login last time, I'd be paying $5 today for it. I mean, no one has to *like* MeFi, but I really dislike these pile-on threads. Makes us look like whiny kiddies, I think. Just my 0.02. I do have to say - hurrah, us April 2nd-ers won't have the highest user numbers anymore! ;)
-
All of you who signed up are traitors!
-
Well, I jumped over there before I saw the part about the $5.00 sign up. Then I registered and saw my account would be activated once I paid mah monah. Monkeyfilter was still going to be my primary home. Now it's guarenteed. Who needs to post on Metafilter anyway? Nothing but a flame war...
-
I've got the sneaking suspicion that, once Mefi's membership hits 20K, they're going on a monkeyhunt. *jacks a round in the chamber, douses light, waits*
-
Oh shit - quidnunc's in over there. hee hee! Those poor bastards won't know what hit 'em! *pulls helmet low over eyes, munches popcorn*
-
Feh. I still read MeFi, but I don't really want to be member the way I used to.
-
Frankly, my dear, I don't give a fuck. *grins happily where she is*
-
Right. I'm goin' right over there now to pick me a fight with Mayor Curley... *sigh* There goes the remaining 17% of my life.
-
I've been a member at mefi for long time, user 1984, and really think that MoFi is the place MeFi used to be. The incessant lefty/righty posts are tedious in the extreme. Hopefully turning on signups will freshen things up a bit over there. I also think asking $5 to signup is lame, surely the ads defray the costs.
-
I was hoping it would get more civil after the election. You know, go back to posting amusing and interesting stuff like they used to. But no, they're so used to fighting pre-election that they don't know how to stop. So why waste $5 on membership for a board where shitting on it has become a regular (and fiercely defended) practice? mofi's better anyway. ook ack.
-
Well, paypal has my $5 - it's funny though, because a long time ago when I used to lurk there constantly, Matt had this deal where the first 25 people after midnight got in free, then everyone else had to pay $5. I was cooler than and would never pay to join anything (blush) but I could never make it into those first 25. So I gave up. . . now, I'm like, okay, there are times I really want to say something and I've gotten fed up lurking and not being able to post. That said (rank newbie looks around nervously) I do like it here and want to do both? Same bat nick, same weird bat person. ;-)
-
$5 worth of trolling here i come!
-
I really think that MoFi is the place MeFi used to be. The incessant lefty/righty posts are tedious in the extreme. I love dual meaning.
-
I paid $5 but all I got was a bunch of porno stuff. I mean seriously, it doesn't even look like MetaFilter once you pay up. What's with all the naked chicks and everything? And how do you post a comment? oh . . . oh wait, I think . . ok nevermind.
-
I think the $5 is as much a measure to discourage people who just want to screw with the site as anything - multiple accounts and all that. Although, oddly, Matt said after my cohort joined (we paid the $5) that he wasn't going to do that again because it just meant people felt more entitled to make demands. He couldn't have meant me. No. Not at all.
-
Half the time the server's down over there and I tolerate it, but if I pay five bucks I'm gonna expect to be able to access the site any time I want. I'll not hear excuses. I'm a paid member, dammit, and I want respect. And I'll expect fresh-squeezed orange juice at 7 am. Sharp!
-
I'm gonna use the "link to this user" feature to link to a bunch of monkeys when I have a little time later.
-
I read Me/Met/Ask, but don't feel any burning need to post there. Hope it goes well for 'em. And I think Mo is better than schoolyard "yeah, well, they suck anyways!". Less flinging, remember?
-
I'll join the multide of Monkeys in admitting that I dove straight in and coughed up the £2.74 or something to get a Mefi account, mainly so that i can actually comment instead of having to shout at the screen when I know the best answer to the AskMefi questions. Still a monkey at heart though.
-
"Less flinging, remember?" Less flinging than what? It's relative.
-
Call me e-naive, but I actually found mofi first. As a native monkey (however new), I don't see any need to post anywhere else. Besides, with sites like MeFi, it's more fun just to yell at the computer screen.
-
Well, I joined. And according the sign on process, someone has already taken the "squidranch" moniker. So on mefi I am going by my true Latino inspired name "ranchocalamari". Who would want to take "squidranch" as a name (I mean besides me)? It's not something that just comes to your lips. I had to kill a whole bunch of brain cells to get a mind capable of coining such a name. Oh well...
-
I just paid, if only so I could set my fontsize. I already borrowed somebodies account since a couple of months but being an Australian proved awkward sometimes since that isn't my background. I posted some FPP's lately one of them was even removed. But i like the atmosphere here better so I'll be hanging around here as well. I hope matt will buy a better server with the money... Too bad my name was still taken, although that person hasn't been active in years. So I took maremare instead. O shit. Lokking up the old mare account I now found my own old MetaFilter account... user 9153
-
And there was much rejoicing and they did eat all the newbies. I bet Matt's server takes a dirt nap by the end of the day. Who's with me on that one?
-
the_bone: you gots one contact linking you already. waiting for you to ferret out all the the other monkey dual-citizens so i can make my contact list longer. as a dual *filter citizen myself, gotta say it's actually not hard to be a member of both - i come here for different reasons than i go to mefi. ask is quite useful. metatalk is fun (in a soap-opera gossipy kind of way, generally...) and like many of you it kills me to have the perfect comment in my head but have no way of sharing it. you will find that people will be a bit curt with you in the blue - it's not meanness generally, just hardened troll defenses that spring into action automatically. (with that many members trolls are a-plenty. and with that many members, the people you consider a troll are quite often beloved by other members. it's a bit weird.) if you get bitch-slapped on your first post/comment just shake it off and keep swinging. worked for me; one of my first comments ended up as sort of a train wreck... and yes, the server is much faster now that matt's moved it (sluggish today with new sign-ups i think), there are no ads (well, text only, no banner) and hidden features (contact info is more detailed for members) once you have the almighty metafilter cookie. (mine is white chocolate chip with macademia nuts.)
-
Ouch, guys, ouch. I've been a member of Mefi for a while, but I also like Monkeyfilter. I used to like politics on Mefi and now I've really soured to it. Some of you bring up some interesting points, and, if you do end up joining Mefi, just don't post political posts.
-
I enjoy both MeFi and Mofi. So there.
-
Squidranch: I took your name! I'll sell it back to you for $10! Come to think of it I'll take everyone's names and charge triple! If Matt can do it I can too!!!!
-
As much as the whole process has been frustrating to me, I find there have been threads I wanted to contribute to. So I plopped down my $6.31. Was worth it, if anything to finally not be looking through the window at all the other kiddies playing and join in if I want to. Adding MoFi members to my contact list as well (hope no one minds). I just hope I am able to avoid the wrath of y6 ;)
-
This place is home. I'm not going anywhere, but I will definitely miss the quidnunc kid.
-
"Less flinging, remember?" Less flinging than what? Than MeFi. That's what it says on my welcome banana anyway.
-
I'll miss me too, Mickey-my-secret-love.
-
So what, exactly, would we be getting for $5? The ability to make comments and FPPs on a community website with thousands of users. Sounds familiar, but when I signed up here it was free.
-
So do most monkeys who aren't MeFi members still read MeFi regularly anyway? If I post a really good link there, should I post it here too, or should I assume monkeys will see it over there?
-
They're gonna blow it on beer. Just you watch. A year from now they'll be all like "Oh hey everybody c'mon and sign up for $5" . . . just because they couldn't save money. *tsk* *tsk* *tsk*
-
what homunculus said.
-
I don't mind cross-site posts at all H-dogg. Fwiw I think more people over here feel encouraged to add to a thread, where as over there you sort of feel like people are tapping baseball bats against their palms when you post. Ah, that said, can we get a Monkeybashi ruling on that?
-
I don't have a problem with cross-posting either, FWIW, since I really don't read MeFi as much as I used to. I usually just scan the front page once or twice a day, looking for anything that stands out.
-
I like MeFi. I still get a lot out of reading it, and if my $5 keeps it going then great.
-
All this defection is depressing. Soon I'll be all alone here, sitting in the dark. Sniff.
-
I'm still here, cynnbad, although I really wish you'd turn the lights back on. Okay, who's poking me?
-
I've been a vocal poster on MeFi for a while now (not as Johnny Huh), I'm one of those politico-bastards too but I'm working on getting over the election and moving on. MeFi needs the new blood and I hope some of you MoFi folks can bring some fun back to the Blue. That said, I need to make MonkeyFilter a regular stop on my daily surf. You guys have way more fun than we have been having lately.
-
monkeys have more fun, neener neener neener... (try going "neener neener neener" on mefi. i dare you. you'll get a metatalk bitchslap so fast it'll make your keyboard jump.) no seriously i doubt many (relatively) long-time posters here will jump ship. some might. but it's a different community feel, ya know. like your work friends and your "real" friends. you act different around both, but like both for different reasons. also, mefites readin' this thread on metatalk. has apparently prompted a couple to jump on the lavendar bandwagon today. so, welcome new dual citizens! now my user number is lower than yours. (take that, konolia/bunnyfire!) :)
-
Count me with livii (I'm a fellow april 2nd-er). I do have a significantly lower user number here, though. (Also, my about page doesn't list this post I made in the early days of MoFi. W T F?)
-
Monkeyfilter is like a younger cousin of Mefi, and as such has a nice little life all of it's own. Any of youse who are situated in the old continent of Europe are also welcome to post your eurocentric links to Viewropa - not only friendly like a monkey, we also have Rioja and camembert! Eat that!
-
Well, I signed up over there thinking perhaps this would fill the dark and empty pit which used to contain my soul but it hasn't. I think I'll sign up with Plastic next. I hear they give out karma points.
-
I'm a dual lurker who sometimes posts at both. I joined for free, but wouldn't think twice about paying 5 bucks for Metafilter.
-
*gives precious +1 to badonkadonk*
-
OMG!!! That is just so spooky! Can you believe i had a dream last night that Mathowie IM'ed me and told me that signups were open? Meanwhile i dont even know the dude!!! That is just so fucking wierd! Hmm...maybe i should go play the lottery today!
-
Ooh! Looky!
-
kenko, loooong story but basically Mofi had to switch hosting providers in October and all past articles are not there right now. Tracy will be bringing them back eventually when she gets the time.
-
Interesting that it happened on the one-year anniversary of MoFi. :) It's very close to my anniversary, too. I hope all you folks that prefer a nicer community and less political sniping sign-up over there and make a difference. That'd be great! But I wouldn't worry too much about MoFi losing members because as MeFi gets bigger and time passes, the two sites will diverge more and more in character. It's already happened. So there's plenty of reason to keep coming here even if you get a MeFi membership...because MoFi is MoFi. It's different.
-
Dual citizenship is mine! And I hope we all get past the sibling rivalry phase soon, really. Both communities have their advantages and I'm thrilled to be part of both. Although I fear I'll never, ever get another damn bit of work done again....
-
what non-sense...5 dollars to do the same thing that MoFi does? that's simple math. and it doesn't add up.
-
Did you say bits? *rolls eyes, daydreams*
-
genial - that's good to know. All my old posts are gone, as well. I thought I'd been away so long I'd been ban-ish-ed. or something.
-
Citrus-tasty.
-
fight! fight! fight!
-
Homunculus, cross posting here & on the Mef is fine, so long as you use completely different wording & structure in the descriptions on MoFi. Just so that we know you are putting the effort in. After all, you've already been crossposting like a big commie whore for ages already, & we love you for it. Now send me money.
-
Goddammit, papercake beat me to it.
-
MonkeyFilter: Crossposting Like a Big Commie Whore For Ages Already.
-
I think it's time to officially get over the sibling rivalry thing. We're no longer a site for Mefi lurkers - as someone said, they found MoFi before Mefi (which I think is great) and now that people can get memberships, that's pretty much moot. It's time to be an independent filter. So by that token, I guess crossposting is still okay, especially since it doesn't happen often. There will be people here who have never been to Mefi, or people that choose not to join there, and may want to discuss a link that's been posted there. I think it should be no different than posting a link that's come via boingboing or memepool. I'm a member of both (April, thanks to Matt's broken code) and I've participated in posts that were posted on both filters, such as jb's recent post on crack babies. The discussions on each filter are often quite different, and hopefully will remain so. I wonder if anyone has considered stealing usernames and selling them for a profit yet, like someone suggested in this thread. On preview: what Nostril said.
-
So do most monkeys who aren't MeFi members still read MeFi regularly anyway? If I post a really good link there, should I post it here too, or should I assume monkeys will see it over there? I never go there, and would appreciate you (and all other MetaMonkeys) still contributing to this community on the FP. what non-sense...5 dollars to do the same thing that MoFi does? It's not quite the same thing. You're paying to watch ads over there, and the people aren't as friendly. But otherwise it's the same. On preview: I would expect that MetaMonkeys would rather someone crosspost with the exact same wording. Otherwise, you'd be clicking on links and winding up finding stuff you've already seen. You'll start to get frustrated that the poster didn't make it simple for to tell it was the same link they posted on the Otherfilter. You're also less likely to get doublepost confusion ("I swear someone posted this here! Where is it?").
-
MonkeyFilter: Stealing Usernames And Selling Them For A Profit
-
I have a login there, and recently asked this interesting question, but that's the first time I have logged in for months.
-
Oi... MeFi's gone down...
-
On crossposting: my main wish is to see good links. It's annoyed me to see MoFi links show up on MeFi only because the lack of quality posts on MeFi has been annoying me for some time. For MoFi's sake, I think every monkey that has gotten an account at MeFi should still post their good links to MoFi first. Since MeFi surely has a larger audience, it's only going to be a small minority of people that would see the same post twice.
-
Thanks, kenko. :) And yeah, I think it was explained, but we all lost posts - nothing personal, though! And thanks, tracicle, for the official word on this - MoFi is a fucking awesome site, and on its own merits. That's why I get so sick of the rivalry stuff. Oh, and I'm willing to link to Monkeys on my contact list too, add me and then I'll know to add you back. Er, and on cross-posting...on Remembrance Day (Veterans Day for the Yanks) I did it too...but some topics deserve it, I guess.
-
But if I pay five bucks and become a member, how can I feel aloof? In a way, I enjoyed and celebrated my exclusion -- just like in high school. To join now would show a real lack of character on my part. Plus, this is a much cooler zoo.
-
I think I'll sign up with Plastic next. I hear they give out karma points. Karma can only be portioned out by the cosmos.
-
After all, you've already been crossposting like a big commie whore for ages already, & we love you for it. Now send me money. I'm the whore, so you pay me!
-
Oh, and I also meant to say - if you're logged in at MeFi, there are only text ads and one graphical ad on the front page - all the other annoying ads are hidden. So you're not paying for tons of ads, like you might think, at least.
-
Those MeFites are assclowns.
-
Which MeFites are ass clowns? I lurk here (MoFi) and there (MeFi). I go through phases of prefering this place (especially during the US elections), but AskMe is whay I love MeTa now and is seems to me to be reason enough to pay $5.00
-
AskMe is cool, but I've never felt the love for it that so many other people obviously do. I wonder why.
-
I gave in and went ahead and signed up for an account. Even if I don't end up using it very much I'll at least have it for those times where I do have something to say or perhaps to ask a question in Askme. And in general I think Matt has earned my $5 and I was pretty happy to give it to him in return for an account. Hopefully the site will be able to handle the surge of new users.
-
What everyone else who signed up said.
-
kmellis - because you already know all the answers... :-)
-
Karma can only be portioned out by the cosmos. Oh! He's got me there! /Apu
-
Monkeyfilter:I think they're all furries or something. Yeah. So what? /goes to do some third-person things
-
I haven't signed up yet for a mefi account, but I'm sure I will soon. Over the past few months I have really stopped reading the blue, but I really like the green. As far as the $5, I have no problem paying it, and wouldn't have a problem paying it here either. I love Mofi for its lightheartedness, and mefi, for well, being my favorite source of procrastination over the last few years. Looking forward to seeing you all here, and on the other side....
-
Appleses. Orangeses. Just because we got hot chicks with creatures tucked in their bits doesn't make us better than them. Or maybe it does...can't...remember...now...
-
What tracicle said, basically. I don't read MeFi proper all that much, so I hope ya'll don't go runnin' over to play in their sandbox, at least not all the time. I like AskMe, and I'd get a login if only to provide some answers when I can, but for $5? After all, I can still ask questions on MoFi, and I'm not sure I have the time to keep up with both filters. Nothing against theirs, just that I'm already here, and most monkeys rock, so I don't really want to move. And pay for it, to boot.
-
*taunts those who hate third-person descriptions of action*
-
*he picks up his banana and peels it tauntingly and bites it* /jay mcinerny second-person description
-
I really do love Monkeyfilter. ;-)
-
Why don't we set up a $5 donation page for running MoFi? I've gotten a lot of fun out of being here and wouldn't mind kicking in my share for hosting fees etc.
-
*Grows up*
-
Metafilter's open? Alright! I can finally ask them what those single . posts mean! I mean come on, why hasn't anyone else?

oh! oh! that's our boy! (i know it's a paraphrase, but shee...)

Um... what does the single . mean, anyway? Exactly?
-
*gives precious +1 to badonkadonk* Thanks, petebest! Suddenly I feel alive.
-
It represents the Third Nipple of Amun, also represented by the Pigeon and Sweatsock of the Great Mysterious Triangle of Iklon.
-
I knew that, mcs. I was just testing you. *nodding*
-
Karma can only be portioned out by the cosmos. Who are these cosmos? Would I have to sleep with any of 'em?
-
Me too! Me too! Wait. What were we talking about? Can I just say that I consider it a freakin' miracle that "Kimberly" wasn't taken at MeFi?
-
OMG!!! That is just so spooky! Can you believe i had a dream last night that Mathowie IM'ed me and told me that signups were open? Strange indeed. I had a similar vision of the mathowie last night. Seriously, no kidding. I don't know what he really looks like, so it was just this vague, shadowy figure. But I knew it was him. He was giving out candy. How creepy is that? Um... what does the single . mean, anyway? Exactly? See, if you had a MeFi account, you'd know. Or you can reference this.

Well, I paid my five bucks. Or my

-
Wait. What?
-
Frankly I prefer the tone here. You'd have to be a masochist that enjoys running a gauntlet of scorn to ever comment over there, let alone attempt a FPP. MeFi may be the single biggest collection of abusive personalities ever assembled in one place. Naturally I signed up as soon as I heard about it.
-
pardon a moment of self interest in my moment of getting to trawl the 'net: does this mean i have to shell out money i honestly can't afford to finally figure out if i'm post banned for good, get a response or at least fix/remove my profile there? and does it even matter anymore? between all the would be pros(e) and khans-- ach, 'scuse me while i troll the 'verse--
-
Poo! Someone over there already has my name!! uh, not that I tried to sign up or anything
-
I'm a dual citizen also and really, mofi is what mefi was not too long ago. 'Pre-Nader' politics, fun links, interesting links, etc. Now its something of ground zero for the listing every error of Bush administration, and frankly political blogs do it a lot better. I do love the green, its like USENET without trying to find which group to post to and seeing if that group is still active. I almost never read the comments on the blue and just skim the posts. When I post a comment I know exactly who is going to say what in reply to it. That's not a good sign.
-
*sticks fingers in ears, grimaces, pulls fingers out of ears and removes wax..* ahem... *sticks fingers in ears, closes eyes tightly, sings the Monkeyfilter anthem* MONKEYFILTER MON-KEY-FI-IL-TER NEENER NEENER NEENER NEE! MONKEYFILTER MONKEY-FILTER NEENER neener neener... um.
-
Double poo! The MeFi "pants" signed up today too! The jerk! maybe if I pay them $10 they will let me be "pants"
-
Typical skallas, always bashing on organized religion... hunh? He didn't? *sputter* He was probably thinking it, though!!! I came to MoFi about a week or so ago because as much as I loved MeFi, I was frustrated because I wanted to participate and couldn't. I just bought a MeFi membership for myself and for the friend that recommended MoFi, and I consider it $10 well spent for nothing other than past pleasures gained. That being said, I haven't posted on MeFi yet, and I've posted a couple things here. I like this place, and would happily pitch in the equivalent $10 to help keep the place afloat.
-
pants, you will always be the pants of MoFi. just as quidnunc was our throbbing, pulsating crotch... *sob*
-
5 bucks indeed. Pffft. Fuckin' insult. Wankers. Wait a sec. We USians don't use that word, "wankers." Lemme try it out. Here goes: "Wankers." Hey, I like that! "You bloody fucking wankers!! You can have your stinking $5 MeFi, you stinking bloody wankers!!!" Hot damn, this word feels good! Thanks, Nostril!
-
I accidentally said "ass" the other day, when I meant "arse". It felt weird.
-
Thanks prismatic. I'll just try to be the most stylish pants I can for all of the monkeys here.
-
[Now I'm gonna go git me a haggis sandwich. "Wankers! Wankers!"] [apologies, flash.]
-
wait...quidnunc left? Nooooooooo!!!!!!
-
We still have the most petebesteses.
-
I still like fuckwit.
-
Pants, it's all good so long as you don't have those annoying pockets that gape out when you sit down and aren't actually useful at all. Oh, and also so long as your type doesn't ride up, or fit at the front and not the back, or get wedged in your crotch. Or have no back pockets so that your butt looks huge. Er, yeah, I'm in the Homer camp ("Don't you hate pants?") But it's nothing personal, honestly... ;)
-
psst... he was being funny. quidnunc already got me once with this same joke last month.

Oh darn. I guess I'm really, really late to the thread. I've been a MeFi unregistered lurker for the past couple of years but I always seemed to miss the previous sign-ups because, you know, I'm not glued to my computer 24/7. And am I the only person who'll be staying at MoFi because I'm way too paranoid to use PayPal?

Tee Hee Check the profile and keep reading.

so, flashy, your ass felt funny the other day? Yer prostate actin' up?
-
Because of bad reasons, mwhybark. Dark, terrible reasons, that I shall not sully this forum of light and gold with. Suffice it to say, the octopus ended up considerably worse off than me. Oh, and it's spelled "arse". :-)
-
For reference purposes only: Nobody has signed up as "Turkmenbashi" over at MeFi yet...
-
I think I'd be scared to post over there.
-
I, for one, welcome our new $5 whore overlords.
-
I refuse to do it! Take a stand against it. I know I would be pureed by those dull pedants; they would destroy me, or try to look good on the interblogs. I'll sit in the dark. Until, there's Monkeyfilter where at least smarter people than me can make me laugh and think -- that's all I ask.
-
But God bless us, every one.
-
cynnbad - would you carve the roast b33st?
-
Only if we could serve l33ks with it! See? I'm NOT a retart! I'm learning!
-
oh, I'm a retart... again and again and again!
-
f8x - I think it really depends on the thread. Most are no longer than monkeyfilter threads, and just friendly discussions. That said, as soon as someone says something you really disagree with, you may find all your shyness just falls away :)
-
I momentarily thought about signing up over there, just to try to tame Mayor Curley. Then, I thought, "no, I kinda like him as he is." So I'll let well enought alone.
-
I would like to second the call for intentional crossposters to post here first. I say this not because I don't like MeFi (it has its uses) but because MoFi is still growing and needs to be encouraged. Give us a head start. Leave no monkey behind.
-
Stop it stop tit sptot it your nuts -- should nyou be over there now? I mean yer no fun!!! blah blah
-
if there are furries here, i'm outtie. because, really, that makes me hot!!!
-
Woohoo! I got my username...so now, I'm me there and here and at gmail and I have a sharpie if I ever run across my birth certificate. Boohoo! I was just about to post here. No, seriously. Shut up! It's only been three months! Anyways, it was a site I've searched thoroughly for, and have never even heard mentioned before. I just searched for it at MeFi, and it was posted two years ago. Did they even have the internets two years ago? This suxors.

Who are these cosmos? Would I have to sleep with any of 'em? If Katamari Damacy is any guide, Cosmos is a dick.
-
If Katamari Damacy is any guide, Cosmos is a dick. Hmmm...well, any guy who shoots rainbows out of his mouth can't be all bad.
-
blecch! Doug Henning!
-
Don't be sad, shinything - it's the world of Illusion! Willie Tyler and Lester!
-
Pardon me. I seem to be in the wrong neighborhood. Can someone please give me directions back to the interstate?
-
Why sure, youngster - yew just head up'n the Intraweb a piece - ohhh . . 'bout forty links 'r so . . turn when you get to the slow server - that's the one with th' spinnin' arrow-wheel or the globe dependin' - it's right next to the old J-Walk place. Cain't miss it.
-
Pssst... Hey you. Yes, you! This is the biggest secret of all, so be prepared. This is what that dot, that period, that you've been wondering about means. You know, . that. I could be kicked out of the once-secret society that is MeFi for this, but since I'm frustrated that in order to get into MeFi back in the day, I had to find 3 sponsors from Club 33 and go through the weird hazing rituals depicted at the bottom of this page, I figure that it must be ok to tell now. Especially since all that is required is just the paltry sum of US$5, or about 1 Euro. But you didn't hear it from me is all. ^
-
man. at least metafilter doesn't have this awful purple background.
-
You can change it. Look in your profile.
-
I like the lavendar.
-
Wow - first my favorite band sucks, and now this!
-
Ach, I joined. Last week there was a post having tangenitally to do about someone I know, and it just killed me not to have the ability to jump in and say something. I doubt I'll post much if at all (I much prefer this place), but I went and paid my five bucks. And secured my username.
-
Metafilter's down again. Server Error The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Could not connect to JRun Server. /just_sayin'
-
ya know i always thought "." was "there is nothing i can say but response thus" in the comic book balloon way much as "..." was "i would say something but i'm not gonna, grumble grumble" but then adjusting to people redefining things is about equal to putting up my own glossay of terms as in "if for some reason i care enough to bother to m/take the time"
-
How can anyone ever be accepted in both filters? They can't. MeFi is a superpower collapsing under its own weight. MoFi is a banana republic. How can one love such places unless one was born there?
-
This calls for a prank! We'll get gaping_modem, roll 'im up in a carpet and throw 'im off a bridge! heeheeheee! the preceding attempt at prankery was lifted from the Simpsons and any likeness to real people or events is entirely ridiculous
-
I always thought that dot was a Tralfamadorian greeting. Dang.
-
*waves to fuyugare* We missed you.
-
*waves to fuyugare* *me also waves, and suggests he updates his bio*
-
grumble. Where will the old timers go? What's the new MeFi? Or will it all be okay again? Is the 'Fi summarily farked?
-
Oh, the good old days. Remember???
-
Eh? Cheap signups? Where?
-
There were good old days? How did I miss them?
-
Kimberly!
