This paper dragon eyes you as you move around. From the always neat Grand Illusions website, instructions, a video, and the the required image to make one for yourself. I made one, it's sweet, and now sits on top of my monitor. Found via linkfilter
  • I made one of these. It was neat. Then I tore it to shreds in a fit of rage. Yep, it's neat.
  • Wow, took me about 20 minutes to figure out all the folds but it was well worth the effort! )))
  • Genial: Odd, isn't it?
  • It's great. But I looked like a moron bending down to get my eyes at the right level and swaying from side to side.
  • ))))! Half of the office is busily cutting and taping now! Thanks.
  • I just saw the video for it, and I'm waaaay too freaked out to try this. I don't understand it, it's gotta be evil or something.
  • This is one of the coolest thing ever! I am putting mine right next to my mini arcade game collection. This will make a great (free) stocking stuffer for several people in my family too.
  • OK - I did my cutting and taping, and my effect isn't nearly as creepy-cool as the video. Am I doing something wrong?
  • MsVader: Did you do it in black-n-white or color? My color one seems to 'work better', so to speak. Although the black and white is good, too. I'm not sure how precise you have to be with the folds.
  • MsVader, there is a spot under the neck that I didn't realize I had to cut, so my effect was minimal until I saw that line and cut it so the head sort of hung outward. Also make sure you are closing one eye (doesn't work with both eyes open) and I sort of relax my eyes a little, much like the Magic Eye Pictures, until the dragons head does not look concave anymore.
  • To go along with Genial's comment, I think distance helps too. You are correct that getting two different perspectives of it (from two eyes) by being close to it seems to ruin the effect somewhat, thus being a ways away from it can help.
  • genial and killThisKid - The one eye tip helped a lot. Thanks. It's creepy-cool again!
  • Neat and freaky!
  • This is cool, just finished mine. Thanks for the link.
  • A lovely dragon! Six of them are leering at me now. And the Toy Shop was great fun, too -- thanks, killThisKId!
  • beeswacky: SIX? I think you can stop making them now =).
  • I had help -- eager help, for once.
  • Jerry Andrus, the creator of this illusion, deserves a FPP of his own. A brilliant magician and debunker of the bogus, this self educated polymath has invented a lot of very cool stuff. As a magician myself, I'm ethically bound not to reveal some of the really cool stuff he has invented for magicians even though I'm dying to, but you may have seen this which is a good example of his non linear thinking.
  • This is great! Christmas is SO taken care of.
  • kamus: Well, you can share a -few- more things, can't you ;)?
