Ephemerata, both Natural and Artificial. The Museum of Emphemerata in Austin, TX is host to a number of bizarre items. With the Grand Closing of the current show coming this weekend, it seemed like a good time to feature the place.
  • I heat patita. I had no idea this was in Austin. I will be visiting it this weekend. You have made my week. /gush
  • you heat patita? that's like heart but hotter, right? very cool, link BTW
  • make that, very, cool, link, BTW
  • Obviously, I meant "I hat patita." Can't be walking around without a hat in this weather, you'll catch your death!
  • ooh, and hats to you Nickdanger! is there some secret mofi sign to use to identify oneself in public?
  • patita, thanks for an unusual and intriguing series of spectacles. Next time I'm in the neighbourhood, I'll try to stop by.
  • Well, patita, in keeping with the theme, I'll be wearing a hat. A green one. Probably'll be there earlier rather than later.
  • Hey, crocodile tears ... We have been drinking the tears for several months and have noticed remarkable gains in supervacaneous subcranial rhyparography And big words!
  • OK BlueHorse, you got me curious. from dictionary.com: supervacaneous = purposeless subcranial = Situated under, or on the ventral side of, the cranium; facial rhyparography = in ancient art, the painting of genre or still-life pictures umm... ok. back on theme, I'll be there in some faux leopardskin hat or another. it might even have ears!
  • just returned from the event and was amazed at the number and variety of items on exhibition. the tears of the crocodile were said to imbue the drinker with a tremendous sense of well-being for ten minutes after consumption. The next exhibition is tentatively scheduled for spring 2005 and will concentrate on the theme of form, drift, and migration. if anyone has ideas about this, and would like to donate/loan items suitable for display, please contact the museum.
  • Well, didn't see you, patita, I don't think. I mean, there was a woman there with leopard print elbow patches, but you said hat, so if that was you, I apoligize for not introducing myself. But, really, what is the proper procedure for this sort of interaction? Just walk up to someone and say "Hey, are you a monkey?" It's gonna get you some strange looks and possibly a court order if you are wrong, so I didn't do it. Yeah, an incredible exhibition, really. You can put any old crap up on the wall and as long as you have a good story, bang, you gotta museum. I went with my wife and one of my best friends. Not sure if they enjoyed it as much as I did, but really, they never do... I partook of the crocodile tears and have been seeing strange things ever since, even an old man with a jack-o-lantern-face telling me things about the next five years that maybe noone should hear-
  • There's a call for loans for the next exhibit, on Crystalization and Drift. Nickdanger, I arrived later than I'd guessed and with an unanticipated entourage (from a birthday party dinner). The heat in the house prevented me from wearing my signature hat, I'm afraid. Eventually there will be a collision of monkeys in Austin!
