Philadelphia Monkeys looking for a place to see decent, old movies? Have you tried this place? Or this place in Pitman, NJ?

The first link doesn't have many good movies right now but before they had a Fistful of Dynamite/Once Upon a Time...The Revolution!(a radicly political Leone movie), The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Juliet of the Spirits, and Periot le Fou. When they showed Fistful of Dynamite they had a speaker who had just written a book on Sergio Leone. The Last link is to a pretty cool place that has some really good old movies but they also just started a silent progam with live organists starting in a few weeks. They also have some horror screenings from these people (warning: obnoxious sound file)

  • I also threw in a link to Temple's site which at the moment has some vapid blockbusters, but they'll occassionally show something like Citizen Kain (that's actually the only example I can call to mind, but worth noting anyway I suppose).
  • You mean the movie where the dorks insist it's final fantasy 4, not 2?! SHIT!@#
  • Occasionally some interesting stuff is shown at the Prince. Two relatively large film festivals a year (straight and not-so-straight). Good venue for film in West Phila. is the International House. Occasionally some stuff is shown at the Rotunda. Penn has a few events here and there. If you can't get out to the cinemas, TLA is a popular local choice, with an incredible selection of pretty much anything film buffs could possibly want. If you really love film, I mean really love film, and the whole experience of going to a real theatre, forget Philadelphia and hit up the Senator in Baltimore. Nothing quite like it anywhere in the world, except maybe Paris, France. Philadelphia's Ritz Cinemas don't even come close.
  • I totally linked the International House, dude. Thanks for the other links though. This place has movies at midnight on Friday and Saterday that can be pretty good (This week its Life of Brian), but I can't seem to find a website that has what they're showing, but the have flyers at the box office. The prints can be kind of dodgey, though.
  • Oops, didn't catch all the letters having their own links. Mea culpa.
  • And for those of you in the Philadelphia Suburbs you can also try The County Theater in Doylestown,
  • I just found < href="http://www.thecolonialtheatre.com/">this place in Phoenixvile.
  • gah, sorry, THIS place
