a pilot's panic call to Flight Service ..., as he believes he is about to crash...
... and how the Flight Service Controllers managed to help him right his plane to save him from crashing.
Recording of near crash of N9815L near Burlington, WI (MP3 format)...why we need qualified humans to continue running Flight Service! (Begins and ends with a description of and plea to Support Flight Service Controllers) Note "IFR" means "instrument flight rules" and "VFR" is "visual flight rules." -------- Imagine sharing a cloud ...

Got a transcript?

This is really chilling at the beginning - you really are listening to someone who thinks they're about to die. What is the difference between Air Traffic Control and Flight Service? Is it a federal organisation? Do they exist specifically for emergencies like this? Are they going to be closed down? Looking up the transcript for this, I discovered that google will produce registration information for a plane if you enter the registration number as a search term. Here's the registration information. Here's a picture of the plane involved (third down). And here's its logbook. No transcript, though. I just got a little overexcited there.

I had some relatives who died in a plane crash. While I am not afraid of flying (anymore), and I know that incidents like these are rare, I think listening to something like this may be too intense. Ack.

This one is pretty old, I recall first hearing it in 98 or so. There was another audiofile I discovered at that time that involved a pilot who misunderstood the weather report and ended up in icing conditions in the mountains. The file started when he called ATC for help, and is two minutes of his trying to control his spin into the mountainside. Chilling.

BBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WRONG!!!!!!!! Tracicle, you didn't find the plane's logbook. You found the logbook of a pilot who has flown that plane. BTW, frustrating site [Monkeyfilter] to a) not include contact info anywhere easily accessible requiring me to b) register and wait 24 hours to point out a mistake/mis-link in a post. *shrug* Have fun, primates.

Well gee, thanks for making such a grandiose effort to correct me there, oblivion. And welcome to MoFi.
