Mofites speak out in the press! (I'll let everyone guess who's who. Thanks again for your help!)
  • ummm. . . shawnj! did i get it?
  • And here I thought my evil plan of giving people the wrong impression of what my true name is would fool them. Blast petebest and his army of clones!
  • i had cherrios for breakfast
  • Ooh, SideDish has been NAUGHTY.
  • Cool, it's our own SideDish too on the byline.
  • i've been naughty? and don't even know why? that's no fun...
  • now now, don't be coy . . .
  • i'm confused, as usual.
  • I think they mean using MoFi to make your journalism job easier. I mean, what kind of hack writer would do that?
  • AHHHHHH. no, it's no problem. in fact, it's the continuation a long tradition in journalism. years ago we'd hang out in diners and eavesdrop on conversations and jump in and ask questions. now we just eavesdrop online, then email and ask questions. it gives you a far broader viewpoint. for instance, if i didn't have the internet, i'd wander the streets of washington and end up providing a voice only for folks who live inside the beltway. what fun is that? i also just posted on a gay BB asking for reaction to the use of the issue of gay marriage in the election. the more varied the voices, the better. the internet is great for that! now, THAT SAID, i'd *never* quote anything directly off the web. i just use it as a tool to find people/sources etc.
  • (and BTW, there are three monkeys hiding in that story i posted. heh.)
  • Alright, monkeys, who is it?
  • Hey! Self-link! Self-link! Can I get my shiny new *post patrol* badge and armband now? /only because I had no guesses on the monkeys in the article...
  • I thought self-links were not allowed?
  • It's me! It's me! I'm the 3rd person, the one with the aluminum head all the way over on the right in the picture.
  • oh you are not! that's pete_best_magneto-v4.0. Probably.
  • You know, if petebest gets his original login back, then I want mine back. You might remember it. It was "the_quidnunc_kid."
  • j. doe, i believe the self-link prohibition is to stop folks from trying to drive traffic to their personal web sites. i often link to my own stories that are on-topic to various discussions. it's probably a fine line, but i'm not linking for any personal gain. does that make sense? (newhouse is getting the traffic, not me, and newhouse could care less.) at least i've never heard from monkeybashi about it, so i assume it's OK... and this one's a special case as the story sprung directly from a mofi discussion.
  • *waves* I'm the one next to the aluminum head.
  • (and I was just kidding about the self-link, really. Honestly, I can't think of anything more clearly apt and topical to discuss here, since it's got our own other Monkeys in the article)
  • the self-link prohibition One day, tracicle will post an FPP self-link to the MoFi front page, and then the whole place will fill with pink smoke and vanish into a jeannie bottle. And I will be very sad aluminum-headed sightseeing device when that happens.
  • Greets all, I'm Nick, the other monkey in the article. :-) Hope more people read this article and decide to do their part to preserve our freedoms.
  • MoFi: The One With the Aluminum Head.
  • Good on you, Neek, Shawnj, and Dishy! I'm glad somebody is rallying. You may be our last, best hope.
