Saving Sam.
"As the swatches of silver in his coarse black fur confirm, Sam the chimpanzee's youth is far behind him. At 56, he is the Sacramento Zoo's senior resident and is among the oldest chimpanzees in captivity in the country. Time has taken its toll."

I got a little choked up reading that. Keep on keeping on, Sam!
-
OK.... except I'm 56..... and, if like dogs (small dogs live longer than big dogs) chimps are sort of small people...and he's old and about to die...and I'm bigger...and...now I'm depressed (and, perhaps already dead!).

Thanks for that articule, homunculus. I'll have to get over there to see Sam this weekend (with a side trip to see those adorable red pandas, of course!). I've been wanting to go to the zoo for a while now anyway, but something always seems to get in the way.

Wow- look at that wonderful face on Sam! He really does look happy. Great story. Thanks, homunculus.
