Red Elvis He was handsome. He was American. He was singing Heartbreak Hotel and Tutti Frutti and he was doing it in the Soviet Union.
  • Great article. Thanks Wolof.
  • That's a really lovely Guild 12-string, I gotta say...
  • Cool article. Adds an interesting perspective to the rock'n'roll creation story.
  • I prefer Blue Elvis.
  • Ineresting article. From the headline, I thought it was going to be about The Red Elvises, who are unquestionably the greatest Siberian surf band ever to move to Los Angeles.
  • Are you oppressed tonight? Have they usurped your rights? Well it's time that the workers unite! Does the bad bougoisie Keep you from being free? Well let's set all their houses alight! Oh the means of production May belong to them But the workers produce it So loose the mayhem! String them up from the walls! Watch the upper class fall! And comrades, don't be oppressed tonight! Thank'ya verry much.
  • Wot, no Plastic Jesus?
  • We did have the Red Elvises linked, before our memory dump. I was getting ready to call dp, but then realised this was much more interesting. I actually have this really soft spot for defectors - I too, always want to be optimistic about communism, though I cannot deny the real human tragedies that large scale Marxist-Leninist states have perpetrated in this century. And yet, so many other tragedies pepetrated by large scale global capitalism and the anti-communist crusades of the cold war. Maybe it was simpler then, when so few people knew what was happening on both sides, and one could pick sides. Maybe it never was simple.
  • Fucking excellent, Tenacious!
