Behind the Scenes at Google [WMV].
University of Washington has made available a 60min video of a speech that Googler Jeff Dean gave on October 21, 2004. He talks a lot about scaling, Google infrastructure, as well as how Google finds words related to the words you type. A really good lecture even for us jaded Google enthusiasts who think we know it all.

So far it's much less technical than I expected from a university lecture, but I'm enjoying the speech and the history. Thanks!

Yeah, it a very general overview. I try and remind my self that not every one obsessively follows Google. It’s interesting to hear Google talk about their search engine in their own words. It was also interesting to hear about the utterances which is one of the many things my girlfriend is learning about in Library Science school.

The scariest moment in this lecture is the bullet beneath "MapReduce: Fault-Tolerance" where it states, If worker W dies, re-execute tasks done by W elsewhere. *shudder
