Chief Justice William Rehnquist had been hospitalized for treatment of thyroid cancer
. Remember when Pat Robertson prayed that God make the three "liberal" Supreme Court justices retire? Looks like a conservative may be the first to be replaced.
Perhaps this will put the issue of who will name the next Chief Justices front and center just in time for Nov. 11th. I can't believe how little attention this has gotten in the press, up until now.
Sending "Get Well" wishes to the Chief Justice.

^has. Guuh!

Will be interesting to see how this plays based on election results. Is it possible that Bush could lose the election and yet get to name both a justice and the new Chief Justice? Could a confirmation by Congress with a Republican majority take place before Holiday Break? Will Rehnquist step down before they have to carry him out? Or will he want to hang around at least long enough to hand another disputed election to Bush (without those messy recounts) if need be?
-
hum. maybe robertson's nefarious plan backfired on him because he prays to the God Who Hates Gays And Liberals And Wants To See Strife And Division In This Country. next time he ought to read some of the nice parts of that book he loves so much. (can't wait until that bastard robertson and all like him are burning in hell for trying their entire lives to fool people out of their money in the name of God. that'll get you sent to hell every time, folks.)
-
well, ok. not like i really want to see anyone burning in eternal damnnation.. but you get what you ask for, right?
-
Self-link: A while back I responded to Robertson's "prayer offensive" with a counter-offensive of my own. Granted, my prayer was for Robertson to retire, but I'll accept this smiting of the Chief Justice as de facto evidence that God likes me more than She likes Pat Robertson.
-
Rove did it.
-
mecurious, please don't wait until Nov. 11th to vote... the election's on the 2nd. where do you get your voter disinformation from?;)
-
What's on Nov. 11th?
-
That's when the recount (and the inevitable rioting in Florida) will end.
-
Gosh, I sure hope he doesn't have Liberal cancer, like the country!
-
Researching "thyroid cancer" it appears that it is often quite treatable. There are signs that Rehnquist's may have gone undiagnosed for some time, however. Also related: An Oct. 19th NPR interview with Slate legal analyst Dahlia Lithwick opines that most current speculation about which judge is likely to retire -- and who Kerry or Bush would nominate to replace them -- is way off base. audio link on page

Rove told me it was on the 11th. : )
-
Nov 2nd is just the test to make sure the machines work. Be sure to show up for the actual voting on the 11th.
-
I heard on FOX that the special election in which liberals can vote is on the 32nd of Septober. That only gives me eleventy-five days to find my voter registration card!
-
Even if Bush were to nominate someone in the two-and-a-half-month gap, and Republicans were to call the Senate back into session, Democratic Senators could just philibuster the hell out of it.
-
What's on Nov. 11th? Armistice Day, perhaps? Fairly important occasion?
-
I hope Rehnquist gets better. And then retires.
-
mecurious: Could a confirmation by Congress with a Republican majority take place before Holiday Break? Rehnquist: I'm not dead yet...
-
Reports say that Rehnquist will be back at work next week.
-
Wolof - I think you mean Remembrance Day. /insular Canuck
-
I had no idea anybody called it anything different, although I note the term's been superannuated in the US.
-
I'm surprised that a dignified disease such as cancer would deign to infect a worthless scumbag like Rehnquist. Really, he should have been dropped by anal warts and some new disease he contracted by rubbing his dick on a bible.
-
coppermac: Ever hear Bill Hicks' bit about how Rush Limbaugh has people shit on him to give him sexual pleasure? I suspect you'd enjoy it quite a bit.
-
Never heard it, HW, but I've got a friend with a few Hicks' cds, so I'll ask to borrow them some time. Thanks for the tip.
