Comics 101. Learn the sordid history of Captain Marvel, or maybe even Iron Man. Find out just what the heck the Crisis on Infinite Earths really was. And there's a great synopsis of V for Vendetta, too. A great read for any comics fan.
  • Very nice, thank you.\
  • Fascinating, at least to me. Can remember Captain Marvel from about the same time I encountered Superman [one was red and one was blue] -- but they failed to have the appeal of for me that the the cowboy comics. All so very different from the English comics [Rupert the Bear] I'd previously been familiar with. Culture shock, here I come! /crippled for life by wearing two six-shooters on my hips whenever permitted -- chiz, chiz, wot a wet and a weed!
  • Well, I sure do know a lot more about Iron Man now. Thanks!
  • I was reading up on the Crisis on Infinite Earths just recently after wondering why there were so many conflicting stories between superheros (I think I was reading Knight's End (?) which has Superman working for Reagan). It's a great resource for comic-book n00bs like me.
  • I love Crisis. Such wonderful nonsense.
  • thanks, jevonus. I don't really read comics much anymore, but it was a fun trip down memory lane with the Crisis and Secret Wars recaps.
  • Ahh, V for Vendetta: my favourite piece of Alan Moore's, and generally under-rated.
  • Oh man, reading the synopsis of Crisis on Infinite Earths made me cry. Can't imagine what reading the actual comics will do.
  • It's been far too long since I last read the delightful and underappreciated Pogo (my dad was a huge fan growing up in the US in the 40s and 50s, and used to read them to me when I were a lass), and being reminded of it here brought back some very happy memories. Great site, if missing a section on the Legion of Superheroes, and my most favouritest superhero ever, Arm-Fall-Off-Boy, whose special secret superpower was that his left arm fell off and then he'd hit people with it. No, really. History sadly does not relate by what process, if any, the arm could then be reattached and used to fall-off-and-fight again another day. Thanks jenovus!
  • An awesome read! Thanks very much jenovus!
  • Did anyone here read 'war' comics when they were a kid? Amongst the Spidermans, Hulks, Star Wars, etc. I had quite a few Commando and Battle comics. Fortunately, their poor impersonations of German (lots of 'donner und blitzen's and 'gott im himmel's) have not precluded me from having a German gf.
  • Did anyone here read 'war' comics when they were a kid? I did. I've no idea who passed them on to me, but I read any and all comics at that stage. I hadn't thought about these ones for a very long time.
  • Apparently quite a few of the 2000AD people worked on them.
  • Is that right? I guess it was a gig, they used to pump those things out by the metre.
