The Real Truman Show - I was just looking at a cool calender that I was going to write about over at Proteinos when an interesting article caught my eye, The Real Truman Show.

Being one of the few people I know that actually liked the movie I was fascinated to find that TV producers in Hamburg are planing a similar Big Brother style program in a man made town (provisionally called Big Brother Forever), the only difference being that the contestants will be volunteers. The producers say that there will be "a forest, a town square with shops and a church, schools and businesses. Contestants will, it is hoped, live there for years, falling in love, going to school, even getting married. The producers hope to lure in businesses to employ them, as well as teachers and doctors." Anyways, there's more on the story over at The Guardian Unlimited.

  • What if we're all already in such a TV show and just don't know it yet? As a long-time science fiction fan, this predictable question had to be asked.
  • Time to report for medication a small reprimand at room 101 on the P. K. Dick wing, hombre. You've been warned, but no, you had to talk about this... :)
  • Ooh, I love that movie. But doesn't it sort of... defeat the purpose if they know they're being filmed? Because when you know a camera's watching you, you just can't help sort of hamming it up. And surely the network will have to interfere some when it gets boring?
  • I guess they're hoping that if the participants are involved for long enough, they'll forget the cameras are there. When you're talking years, I guess, it could happen.
  • Would it be something like that 'The Sims' game I've heard a few people fanatically talk about?
