Flickr groups The name says it all, really. Where are the monkeys?

I just happened upon Flickr Groups and couldn't find any Monkeys. (Yes, they have one) There's a MoFi Audioscrobbler group -- why not a Flickr one? Any monkeys interested in photos here? If you have a flickr account, post it up! For those who don't know, Flickr is the result of a drunken alleyway fumble between social-networking and photo blogging. It has some neat features like tagging parts of photos, searching by tags, and so on.

  • It's a cool idea. I fear the name doesn't say it all, but a combination of the home page and your extended description got me through.
  • Okay, I've made us a group. Enjoy, post photos, etc. It's fully open, anyone can see the picture, only members can see the discussions. Why? Just because. If anyone wants to be an admin (or flickrbashi), just let me know.
  • I noticed that as well, I saw the MeFi flickr group and wondered why there wasn't a MoFi one. I've joined up and thanks for setting one up Sandspider. I didn't do it earlier because I thought it might be viewed as crossing the line. *queue foreboding music* If you need an extra flickrbashi let me know, I promise not to fling bananas ;)
  • Heh. I'm never afraid to cross the line. I'm a loner, Dottie; a rebel. And beeza, congratulations on your promotion.
  • Joined. Thanks for setting it up...
  • Ok, I'm not interested in some group thing, but I have captured MoFi pictures from a number of old and new posts. Should I up load them? Or is that tacky?
  • path - if they are of people from the old photo thread, you could always email them - several might be happy to have them there. I have meetup pics to put up, too, if no one minds.
  • I joined, just to let everyone know.
  • I'm in.
  • I've always wanted to join. Thanks for that one last push over the cliff that I needed.
  • I haven't had a picture taken of myself in...12 years. That's right. 12. So you'll just have to use your imaginations.
  • I joined. Then I went to find a picture for my user icon and realised I haven't gotten a picture of myself taken in two years.
  • OK PatB, we'll just have to view you in your younger days and imagine your graceful aging. Come on, post up.
  • You can stick up that picture from your blog, tracicle - is your hair really that bright normally? It's amazing.
  • (Amazing in a good way :)
  • I'm in, I don't have a self portrait on my computer, so I made a temporary substitute.
  • I'm a member of Flickr, but fail to see its usefulness. So I don't use it. (Gentlemen, start your flamethrowers, please.)
  • Skrik: I think the flame fizzled and died ;) Why hesitate adding pictures from MoFi meetups? I think its a great idea.
  • Sandspider before I completely forget my manners, thanks! Wouldn't want the world to think that some Canadians can be rude, would shatter our image as polite ... heh ;)
  • Heheh. No problem, and you are quite welcome.
  • OK i am in only I had to pick another name cause bratcat was taken. Seems I am not so original, am monkeybrat at flickr.
  • I joined. We have no photos in the group pool? Should I throw one in to get the ball rolling? Or is this space only for photos with furry monkeys?
  • Surely it's for anything at all? I was at the local safari park on the weekend and to my regret never took a single photo of the monkeys (unless you count #2 and my son).
  • "the_bone" was taken. Feh.
  • Odd... "the_bone" was taken, but "The Bone" wasn't. I'm now in. Is this going to be some thing that's cool for 5 minutes and then falls into disuse, like the Orkut group?
  • We have an orkut group?
  • Yes.
  • I just checked that yesterday too, after Flickr reminded me of it.
  • I signed up but I misspelled my e-mail and had to sign up again. When I went to delete the other account, though, I forgot the way in which misspelled my e-mail. So, now there's two of me. Hopefully one will just get deleted in alittle while.
  • I have an appointment on friday to get a tattoo of a monkey. I'll post a photo of it soon after.
  • And my thought was that it was for anything at all as well, but I'm sure Monkey pictures would be appreciated. Now I have to go and find the orkut group. Incidentally, I think it's really cool that my little contribution has helped to catch so much attention in the more recent thread. I mean, it did take a lot of effort to set up, so I would have been crushed had nobody noticed. Heh.
  • I'm on as Banngerald.
  • It's annoying when you have to change your handle, isn't it? I wish I could just claim every incidence of jb ever - EVER in HISTORY.
  • I was just looking for a new photo hosting service... and this is cool with it's Blogger posting function. Thanks! I am on as me.
  • Actually, jb I was already on as banngerald. But since I posted the comment I've gone and changed it to Nickdanger. Just to keep you on your toes.
  • I just realised a major downside (for me) - you can't save the photos. I guess that's good to protect peoples' copywrites and image, but I usually get copies of my friend's photos off webpages. Sorry - I shouldn't have assumed that you hadn't meant to have the other name - I was just projecting my annoyance :)
  • Actually jb, I think it depends on the kind of license the poster of the photo chooses. There are Creative Commons licenses that would allow it, but the author of the photo would have to choose to do that. The more I noodle around flickr, the more neat things I find. Thanks, Sandspider, for setting up the monkeyfilter group and giving me yet another giant time-sucking place to procrastinate with....
  • I agree with ambrosia - this is great.
