The Mercury Theatre on the Air - in 1937, John Houseman & young prodigy Orson Welles formed their own theatrical company, The Mercury Theatre, which a year later began adaptions on radio, their most famous being "The War of the Worlds". They performed Dracula, Treasure Island, A Tale of Two Cities, & numerous others. All of the surviving Mercury Theatre shows are on this page in Real Audio (sorry) or MP3 format.

If you don't like RealPlayer installing all sorts of crap all over your system (who does?) you can get Real Alternative, which supports pretty much everything, & you don't need that invasive annoying app. Enjoy.

  • Sir, you've made my day. To express my thanks, I present to you this honorary pin recognizing your contribution to my activities today.
  • Jeebus H. Craposaurus, this is wonderful. Thank you Nostril!
  • Oh, excellent! And the Real Alternative -- the very thing I've been looking for. Thanks, Nostril.
  • Excellent, I love this sort of thing. Nostril wins again. ))
  • Oh! brilliant graphic, the meh, I'm keeping that! & Thanks the rest of you, I didn't realise this was a thing other people liked as much as me! :D
  • For those who love "Old Time Radio" definitely run, don't walk to The Old Time Radio Show Catalog. There you can purchase MP3 CDs of some of Welles' Mercury Theatre performances, as well as his run on "The Shadow"! I picked up OTR's "Orson Welles Collection", as well as Vincent Price's run on The Saint. Highly Recommended. I'm going to grab a run of "You Bet Your Life", and "Dragnet" next.
  • Radiolovers.com has some good stuff too.
  • Gitcha red-hot Agnes Moorehead right he-yah! Bookmarked. Thanks, Nos.
  • Neat post. The recorded meeting between HG and Orson is great.
  • Nostril doesn't win the thread. He wins the whole fucking front page with this. Cheers, Nos. Your best FPP yet, methinks.
