Calendars through the Ages - Myriads of variant calendars have seen use in human civilization since the beginning of our ability to measure time. This site lists some of those in use today, and major ones used in ancient times.
  • Here's another one used today.
  • This is very interesting - always meant to read up about the French Revolutionary calendar, among other things.
  • Well I thought it was interesting. I'm glad you did, too, Plegmund. I am particularly interested in the Roman calendar system, as I'm adapting it for a fiction project of mine, set in an alternative universe.
  • Thought the inclusion of the Star Wars calendar here unexpected, but fun, too -- thaanks, Nostril.
  • Well spotted, that man.
  • Let's all have a MoFi meetup on December 23, 2012! Nostril: Ever read Silverberg's Roma Eterna? It's not bad, but a bit more for Roman history wonks, or even Gordianus the Finder fans than for true alternative-history weenies. I'm a fan of all three, so I'll really look forward to yours!
  • Um.. well it's an alternate universe set on a planet identical to Earth.. and there the similarity with ours ends. There's no recogniseable historical features in it. I'm simply using the Roman calendar as a *base* for an alternate-universe one, not following it closely. I toyed with using the Mayan civil calendar, but it is rather too complex for my purposes, although one culture in the tale does use something similar.
  • very interesting site. thanks ! - This is a good program about calendars.
  • Mr.Nostril: Excellent link. I've got plenty of reading to do now!
  • Yep, this is a cool find.
  • Plegmund, here's some more on the FRC. Thanks Nostrildamus, cool link.
  • Merci bien, rxreed.
