Sabrina Happy; Me Scared
The disturbing big-eye, small-mouth style of Japanese anime is a lifestyle choice for Sabrina Happy, a webcam "girl" who spends an awful lot of time tucking and smoothing during each live costume change.

*shudders* As if anime was creepy enough on its own...
-
*wasn't* creepy enough, sorry. In my defense, I was creeped out.
-
can someone PLEASE explain japan to me?
-
I'm wondering two things: 1. Does he/she go out in public like this? and 2. Which is it? He or she?
-
Well, I can't believe my introduction to the MoFi community will begin with this topic, but here goes. The Happy Sabrina site is the home for a kigurumi player. Kigurumi is a full body costume kind of thing, sometimes its an offshoot of cosplay. Usually it involves a full body flesh colored unitard, then a fiberglass mask that resembles an anime character. Kigurumi can also be generally applied to costume actors also that look a little more like the ones on this site. There is a whole slew of sites devoted to this activity. A few more to consider is the Strange Kigurumi Army or It's A Wonderful World (flash). Kigurumi is not a wholly Japanese obsession though. There are a few American sites. Such as Reika's Kigurumi Haven or Yuri's Kigurumi Paradise. Yuri's website also has a nice description of what it takes to become your own kigurumi character. You'll also find if that you delve into these assorted sites and the links list at the sites that Kigurumi is also home to for crossdressers and transvestites as well as commited fans of anime. So if you go further into these sites you might find some NSFW images. Now I will avoid speaking about this again. I came to make my first comment on MoFi and I didn't know it would be about this.

The Japanese, without a doubt, have all the greatest websites in the world. (I wonder if they would all seem appallingly mundane if we could only read the accompanying text...)
-
Looking back on my comment, I would like to add that usually my wording and grammar is a little better. I was just so excited to post something and trying to get the hyperlinks right that I kind of let my words run together. I'll try to do better.
-
(I was about to post that Yuri's Kigurumi Paradise link, Treeboy, then left it out for some reason. Strange) And welcome to MonkeyFilter
-
Well okay then, Treeboy. That explains it. I think.

Pondering the many interesting dress-up games people play...Trekkies at a con, Renaissance fair folk, druidical types at Stonehenge, and of course the sights to be seen at many a clan gathering or Highland games...hmm, wonder if the Japanese wear kilts?

* Gets out wet noodle for Treeboy*

Wow. I think MoFi is now officially playing with the big boys in terms of member expertise. Welcome, Treeboy, and don't apologize -- that was incredibly informative!
-
I'm with L-Hat; You took the time to reveal something new to me, Treeboy, so I'm IN YOUR DEBT. No one is laughing at you. I hope you will feel at home with the rest of us, because I already like you.
-
Treeboy - that was incredibly informative. It doesn't seem that any of us understand why you were so shy about being an expert on something we didn't know about. I can hardly wait for your first front page post - out there in the stratosphere, taking us to places we haven't been before.
-
So, opie_and_ollie, how did you come across this site? I found through the links at SKA, which I discovered through a cosplay site.
-
A good friend living in Japan linked me to it. Someone she works with told her about it.
-
DNG: Probably the ones that seem interesting now would seem mundane, and you would find that some of the plainest looking ones are some of the best things ever created by man.

bugread and dng - Now I know where the TimeCube guy and others learn their m4d HTML sk1ll5. As weird as they look, the costumes of Sabrina Happy look quite natural from a distance. Welcome Treeboy!!

I came to make my first comment on MoFi and I didn't know it would be about this. It is good though that you explained what the heck we were looking at, and it did have a name: kigurumi. And, as you can see, I still haven't found out what my first comment on MoFi is about. (Somehow, I suspect it's less helpful).
